Has anyone had a Greenfield or inferior vena cava filter inserted beofre surgery?  I am having my done on 12/14.  My question is this.  I live 4 1/2 hours from the hospital where the procedure will be done.  Should I spend the night there the night after it is inserted or do you think it is safe to drive back home that night?

i dont know what a vena cava filter is...  what is it?  I would say ask the doctor performing it and see if you should stay the night.  Sounds serious to me.

My guess would be to stay the night but you really need to ask the doctor doing the procedure.

The Greenfild filter is a filter they put in the largest vein in your body (the vena cava) to help prevent blood clots from getting to your heart or lungs.  I did call the surgeon and he recommended that I stay the night.
