Scott ~
So good to see you posting! Every time I see your picture, it just makes me smile!
My energy took about 1 1/2 weeks to start knocking on my door, and even then it would stay for too long. I would have spurts - usually 2-3 a day where I felt pretty good, but after a couple hours, I really needed a nap. By the third week, I was about to where I was before surgery, with my walking and regular activity. Ocassionally I needed to rest a bit, but didn't feel like I "desperately needed a nap" or anything.
In the beginning, I did much better w/ my protein than my water. not being able to really drink (just little sips) drove me c-r-a-z-y! But now that I can drink a little more normally, I'm doing better w/ getting all my liquids in.
You might try some protein pudding. I know Vitamin Shoppe has their brand, but haven't tried it. I had some Any Whey (unflavored) protein powder that I would mix with regular sugar-free pudding that I would make with skim milk. That was ok.
My favorite thing now is Matrix choc. w/ splenda just mixed with ho****er. When I mix it with skim milk, it's creamier, but I can't drink a full 8 ounces w/o hurting. When I mix it with water, I can actually get in about 10 oz.. I also have bounced back and forth with SlimFast Low Carb shakes. They have 20g of protein (SF High Protein only has 15g, and Optimum only has 10g --- so go for the LowCarb ones. You'll find them in the pharmacy area usually, not in the "grocery" aisle.) Anyway, hope that helps... (Oh, cottage cheese sprinkled w/ a little Splenda is a good source of protein when you can have it! And the cottage cheese pancakes! My husband actually ate 4 of them this morning! They're soooo yummy!)
Anyway, didn't mean to overload you. You're doing great! Don't get too impatient with yourself. It's ok to just lay around and take care of yourself. The lack of pain from this surgery is a little deceiving. We don't "hurt" so we think we should be up and movin' and groovin'. It takes a constant "mental check" to remind ourselves that we just had MAJOR surgery, and though you can't tell on the outside, the insides are very swollen, very tender, and need time to heal!
Can't wait to see you and Beth at the next Lunch Bunch!
