Energy level question?

When did your energy level return?  I'm just a little curious, because mine is no where to be found!  I am walking a little everyday and that just wipes me out.  Let's not talk about taking a hot shower.  That takes almost an hour to re-coop from. Water and protein tend to be a struggle, but I am getting the bare minimum on each.  It's kind of hard to find nice protein choices in the full liquid phase.  I am supplementing with EAS shakes.  I haven't had the nerve to try and make a protein shake on my own yet.  Though I will say I am getting there quick! Guys, you are the best, any suggestions you have will be accepted and tried!   Have a great day!

Scott,            It will take several more weeks until the energy returns, at least it was for me, but it sounds like you are doing the right things.  It hasn't even been two weeks take it easy and don't rush success!!! Mine started getting better at about 2 months. You are still getting over the effects of anesthesia so take it easy. It takes about 2 weeks for the anesthesia to leave your system. It sounds like you are doing everything right. Just give it time now.

Hey Scott! It is so wonderful to see you posting again!  I think I must have been unusual because I really didn't have much problem getting in my protein.  I think after Susan and Sheila pounded it in my head for so long prior to surgery...I just didn't realize that I had an option.  I drank a lot of Hood's Calorie Countdown (low sugar chocolate milk.)  I still drink a lot of it.  I usually have at least two cups of hot chocolate everyday...8 oz of Hood's in the green carton is 8 grams of protein with only 3 grams of sugar  and 45 calories.  Regular skim milk has 12 grams of sugar and 90 calories for the same amount.  I mix a paste with 2 Tablespoons of Splenda and t1 Tablespoon of cocoa powder...or however you make hot chocolate then pour in the milk and heat it in the microwave.  Delicious!  As you get in a routine, you might try adding some Matrix to your coffee in the mornings and flavor it with a little DaVinci syrup.  Remember that as long as your coffee is decaf, you can count it towards your fluid intake.  In the beginning I would make a blender bottle full of decaf and Matrix and then sip on it for the first half of the day.  By the time I finished it I had consumed 30 grams of protein and 32 ounces of fluid. Just be patient...you are gonna do just fine.  Find something that you like and concentrate on that.  And to answer your question...my energy level returned almost as soon as I opened my eyes.  I think I may not be the norm because I even went to church (and drove myself) the first Sunday following my surgery.  When I got home I never got in the bed to rest...I was ready to play!!  Again, I don't think my experience is typical but it sure has been great! Big smile to you and Beth! Freddie

Scott ~ So good to see you posting! Every time I see your picture, it just makes me smile! My energy took about 1 1/2 weeks to start knocking on my door, and even then it would stay for too long. I would have spurts - usually 2-3 a day where I felt pretty good, but after a couple hours, I really needed a nap.  By the third week, I was about to where I was before surgery, with my walking and regular activity. Ocassionally I needed to rest a bit, but didn't feel like I "desperately needed a nap" or anything.  In the beginning, I did much better w/ my protein than my water. not being able to really drink (just little sips) drove me c-r-a-z-y! But now that I can drink a little more normally, I'm doing better w/ getting all my liquids in. You might try some protein pudding. I know Vitamin Shoppe has their brand, but haven't tried it. I had some Any Whey (unflavored) protein powder that I would mix with regular sugar-free pudding that I would make with skim milk. That was ok. My favorite thing now is Matrix choc. w/ splenda just mixed with ho****er. When I mix it with skim milk, it's creamier, but I can't drink a full 8 ounces w/o hurting. When I mix it with water, I can actually get in about 10 oz.. I also have bounced back and forth with SlimFast Low Carb shakes. They have 20g of protein (SF High Protein only has 15g, and Optimum only has 10g --- so go for the LowCarb ones. You'll find them in the pharmacy area usually, not in the "grocery" aisle.) Anyway, hope that helps... (Oh, cottage cheese sprinkled w/ a little Splenda is a good source of protein when you can have it! And the cottage cheese pancakes! My husband actually ate 4 of them this morning! They're soooo yummy!) Anyway, didn't mean to overload you. You're doing great! Don't get too impatient with yourself. It's ok to just lay around and take care of yourself. The lack of pain from this surgery is a little deceiving. We don't "hurt" so we think we should be up and movin' and groovin'. It takes a constant "mental check" to remind ourselves that we just had MAJOR surgery, and though you can't tell on the outside, the insides are very swollen, very tender, and need time to heal! Can't wait to see you and Beth at the next Lunch Bunch! ~ Tara

I agree with Shelia you still have a few weeks.  I wanted to lay around and sleep for at least 6 weeks.  I use to kid that taking a shower was like washing a Volkswagon, the car aint really all that big until you try to wa**** when you have absolutely no energy.  So now when I take a shower its a standing joke that I am going to wash my Volkswagon.  LOL

Just hang in there, you will be up dancing around and going all over the place and ready to be out with RJ when spring time hits.

Hey Scott, don't think I can give much input yet, but I can give ya alittle support. I am so sorry that you don't have much energy, Bless your heart. From what I've heard the first couple of months is the hardest, it is like you are getting your bod into the training mode. You got the best support right there, Beth,Rj and  Melissa. I know that Melissa is going through the same. I wish I could make it easier, just like I know that Beth and the rest of the group wishes the same. Hugs and lub Barb

I have tried several of the protein powders.  I found everything that GNC makes is awful.  I tried the Nectar Fuzzy Navel and it is very good.   Also All the Whey makes a pretty good Strawberry and Chocolate Mint Whey Isolate.  The have about 25 gm protein per serving and taste good mixed with water.    Unfortunately you can only find those online.
