Houston, and Olson.  Which Dr would you choose to do a gastric bypass?  Also tell me about Centennial hospital.  Thanks

I have been a patient of Dr Houston since Feb 04.  He is a great person, he is an awesome doctor.  He is very serious about what he does.  He cares and wants you to succeed.  Centennial hospital is very user friendly for the bariatric patient.  Most ,if not all, of your nurses have had one of the procedures and they know what you are going through.  They are very professional.  I chose them because they are Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity.  Thats what I needed, treatment for obesity.  Just like I would go to a cancer center, if I needed treatment for cancer.  They are good at what they do.  You can go to my profile and read my story if you would like to.  Just click on my name under my avatar.

My best friend had surgery with Dr Dyer in Nov 07, and I stayed with her in the hospital and I was very impressed with him as well.

Dr. Houston is my surgeon.  I love him... a lot.  I have a date with him on Feb. 14th, Valentine's Day.... oh not a DATE date, lol!  Although we have nicknamed him Dr. Hottie. I have heard wonderful things about each of them.  Dr. Dyer is good, so is Dr. Olson.  I had a problem with my gallbladder and Dr. Olson called me after I had left a message one weekend.  He helped me a lot, and I really liked him.... I would suggest meeting each of them at a seminar and listening to their lectures...  you will know which one you want... I dont know how that works... It just seems to work... almost like there is a doctor just for you, and you know him when you meet and listen to him.  But thats my opinion.

I had Dr Dyer, but I agree with Melinda.  Go to the seminar and listen to them and decide from there.  They are all very good, the best in fact.   Centennial hospital was good.  I liked the younger nurses better, not as gruff as some that had been around awhile.  But they ALL took great care of me and my DH when he had his done.  When you get ready to have the surgery, post about what to bring and we will help you with all of that.  Pillows etc.  Good luck in your search and welcome to the TN board.   We would love to meet you.  There is a dinner this Saturday night and the next luncheon is Saturday February 9.  Come to one or both.   Peace! I am a patient of Dr Dyer and I think he is terrific.  Always takes his time with you and explains everything.  He is very professional and cares about your progress.  I work at Centennial as well and of all the doctors there, he is the one that always goes out of his way to show that he sup-ports you.  I think he is a very special person.  But do go to the seminar and get a feel for the program!

I am a bit biased but I think my surgeon is the best and he happens to be one of the two you list. Dr Houston is my surgeon. I do not think you could go wrong with either one, but you should continue to get opinions and go to the seminar and check it out for yourself. The thing I like the best is the after care program. Once again I am a bit biased on this subject but I feel it is the best around. Much Love

I chose Centennial because of the aftercare program.  It's the best around.  Once you're a patient there, you're always a patient there.  And it's like Darlene H. said, most of the nurses that will be taking care of you have had one of the procedures.  So, they've already experienced first hand how it feels to be in your shoes.  I had Lap Band with Dr. Dyer on 11/29/07 and I really like him and I also love my band.  Good luck on your journey and welcome to the Tennessee Board. Good morning!  I can't speak for Olsen or Houston.  Dr Dyer did my RNY on 12/18/07.  I actually met him when my wife had her surgery and was throughly pleased.  He took care of her, both during surgery and afterward.  She had some complications , but he was there for her and as well for me.  During her surgery, I was the support person and Dr Dyer recognized that aspect of the journey.  6 months later he did my surgery,  During my surgery, he found a lot of adhesions.  He took the time to cut them out so I could contuinue. I have been nothing but pleased with Dr Dyer's compassion for his patients as well as for their families.  The aftercare has been fantastic. My advice...learn as much as you can, attend as many seminars as you can, and listen to your heart.  You will know when you find the right one! Good Luck and welcome to the TN Board!

Another voice for Dr. Dyer.  I really liked the staff and the Doctor and appreciated the fact that he has an aftercare program Centennial has a nutritionist, and excercise person, and a mental health specialist, Plus Dr. Dyer is really good about followup care and visits.  I haven't heard anything negative about any of the Doc's there.  You can always read the reviews on the Doc's and on the hospital somewhere on this board.  Also if you go to centennials web site, you can take a virtual tour and get some more info.  But do your home work and check out different ones until you find the one you are comfortable with.  Good luck to you! My BFF had surgery with Dr Houston about 4 yrs ago and did well.  She was extrememly pleased with the after care.  I was seeking Dr. Dyer as my surgeon because he was covered under my old policy, not Houston.  I went to a seminar he did at Centennial and asked a question (cant remember now exactly what it was about) anyway, after he answered the lady next to me introduced herself as his wife and was very nice.  He seems very "matter of fact" but I decided he was the one I wanted to do surgery.  Unfortunately, I switched insurances and now have no coverage at all for WLS-trying to decide what to do....
