Dehydration

Okay, so I got really sick saturday.  SO sick.  Something, I'm not sure what, got stuck in my band.  My back was killing me and I couldn't stop spitting and vomiting.  (not real vomit, "lap-band" vomit).   I couldn't  hold down anything - water,  food, nothing. So, I waited 24 hours, still spitting and I actually got  worse,  I couldn't move from  my trash basket.  I called Baptist and It just so happened a lap-band doctor was there.  My cousin took me, racing down the interstate - and I kept vomiting in my basket. The doctor said he was glad I had come in, my lips and fingers had turned blue.  He decompressed me, taking all saline out and I felt better.  He said he thinks I had been dehydrated for awhile - the "whatever" getting stuck made it worse.  Now, it has been two days since this, but I am still weak and tired.  I have been eating, although not much, and drinking a lot.  I haven't been sick....just reeeally tired. I called my regular medical doctor to see if I could get a blood test - but the lady wasn't very nice to me saying that I needed to call my lap-band doctor.  I said "well, I was just wanting to know what I was missing..." so, I have now called my lap-band doctor and am waiting for the nurse to call me back.  So, anyone else been through this?  How do I get back my 'get-up-and-go'?

I didn't have lapband so not real familiar with all you guys go through... but I am sorry that you got sick! And glad that you got it taken care of and are on the mend!  I am sure it will take a few days to get back to your normal self... dehydration does make you feel soooo tired and exhausted!  And not getting nutrition does it too...  take care of yourself and please keep us posted!

Hey Socks, good to see you on here again, been way to long. I can and have felt your pain. I'm not sure if you read my past post about DH and I. He was in the hospital for over a week, well during that week I concentrated on him and put myself on the back burner........bad idea. I finally got him home on a Monday afternoon and then that following Thursday it was my turn. I had to go to the ER, could not keep anything down, like you not even water. I was hurting everywhere, I was also having chest pains, but they checked out my heart and all that was jsut fine. I think that was brought on by a panic attack, beacuse I felt so bad. So they kept me over night and treated me for dehydration....pumped me full of fluids. Dr. Spaw come to see me and took I think 3cc out of my band. I was able to go home the next day. That was around the end of March, I am just now starting to get back to normal, for whatever that is worth......LOL. When I went for my follow up after I got out of the hospital, I had lost 35lbs in just a little over 4 weeks. Don't get me wrong I will take the loss, but that is not the way to do it. So that is my 2 cents, hope this helps. You have done right by calling the doctor and not waiting until it really gets out of hand like I did........DUH I know that now, but not before, go figure......LOL. Just take it real slow when you start back to eating and do as they say. Keep us posted on how you are doing.... With me losing so much I am afraid that I will have a gain...we will see, I go back on the 29th. Sorry, I can't relate to that.  I just hope you get to feeling better real quick.  Maybe some of our band veterans can help out!  I've seen Cheryl has posted, maybe she can give you some good advice!

Well, Cheryl is our "been there, done that" band expert. If she says it will take a while to get your "get-up-and-go" back, I know that she knows what she is talking about. Hope you start feeling better soon. Sip, sip, sip! We don't like any of our folks to have to deal with dehydration. BTW - Dr. Morton is a sweetie. He took care of me once when I had a virus and Dr. Spaw was out of town.
