I thought i was doing everything right. The past week my weight hasn't gone down. I am only 4 weeks post op. I then decided to look at what i was eating and drinking. Low and behold one of my protein shakes has 20 gm of carbs!!!!! That will teach me to look closer at the labels. I was getting around 40+ gm with those shakes. I do my best to stay under 25 gms no wonder i wasn't going any where. Lesson learned read everything even if it say low carb  . Any tips on integrating real food into my diet I still have some problems with meat but i think it is to dry feels like gravel going down. I am going to slow roast and bake it maybe it will be moister than boiling. My dogs are enjoying my leftovers i still haven't got the hang of cooking for one.

I would suggest sticking with softer proteins at your stage (eggs, cottage cheese, low carb yogurt, low fat cheeses - string cheese, canned chicken, tuna). Definitely read those labels! :-) Low carb doesn't necessary mean low calorie...I'm sure your protein shakes pack a lot of calories too which will hinder your weight loss. There are various protein drinks that are low in carbs..also a lot of people make their own protein shake concoctions. I personally don't have the patience, time, or creativity to do so :-) As for your weight loss...even though the scale hasn't moved, doesn't mean that you haven't lost inches. I lost 18 lbs the first week post-op and then nothing for the next couple of weeks...but I lost inches. I took monthly photos and recorded my measurements. Not only is it proof that your surgery is working, it is motivating to look back at how far you've come.

Same story here... I lost 27lbs my first week after surgery but immediately plateau'd for a few weeks afterwards...different people lose, well differently.  I would lose some weight and then plateau'd for about 3 weeks consistantly -- steady. Some people drop amazing amounts early -- everyone is different.   I'm a little over a year out and down 140lbs...so hang in there.   And yes, read those labels and I reinterate tuna and chicken salad, yogurt, cottage cheese all good choices at this stage.  CARBS ARE NOT YOU FRIEND!   Watch them.

Thanks everybody......been eating tuna and chicken,,,,,i now have gills and feathers.. i also don't have the patience to make the shakes so i went on BE and ordered some rtd.......thankfully i like yogurt and am amazed at the amount of sugar in some of them......it took me 15 minutes of reading various labels to find one that was between 5-8 gms of sugar....

If you have a Kroger near you, try the Carb Master yogurt. It has twice the protein of other low fat, SF yogurt and a thicker, creamier texture. It comes in vanilla, strawberry, peach and raspberry flavors.

Know this: You are not other people and you will lose in your own time. Do not compare yourself to others I had a stall that lated 3 weeks once. The only competition you are in is the one against yourself and trying to win the HUGE PRIZE.........LIFE..........so do not look at what others have done and are doing follow YOUR DR's guidance and walk and drink and walk and drink I still drink like there is no tomorrow and I am 10 days away from being 7 months out this is a lifestyle change and it is so true that slow and steady does win the race. You now have the rest of your life to adjust and develop a change thats good for you. I actually was told by my Dr that I could eat Carbs as long as it is in moderation. so when I have a steak (protein BTW) I have 1/2 a small baked potato with cheese and low fat sour cream...as this may not be for others I do not recommend it, I can only say what I do. I also eat cheerios also has carbs but they are good for me. I jus****ch and have learned its all about MODERATION! Good luck to you and call your dietitian he/she may enlighten you and for the record before I get jumped on about carbs...I am already at my goal weight and I did it with no rush or desired date to accomplish this. I am now 152 pounds 5'8 size 9/10. I was a 20/22 so huge difference. I did not give up eating and enjoying life I just found what works for me.

Oh yeah if you are real concerned about carbs then get a carb smart cookbook. something that will help you learn to cook carb smart. Lots of carb friendly recipes on the net. I was more worried about sugars and fried fatty foods. Like I said do what works for you.

I have never dumped does not mean you wont just means I haven't. so be weary about asking other. about food advise. What may make you dump may not make them. walk lightly on this matter ok.

Any way I have babbled enough GOOD LUCK!
