Been along time since I've posted.. my update
This update is somewhat hard to tell you all because it makes me admit my mistakes and my weakness's... well its been almost 3 months since my surgery.. I had it on November 15 and I am down 40 pounds.. could be alot more but thats my fault.
I havent been walking or exercising. My protein shakes.. sigh well i dont take them much at all... i have skipped many days of vitamins.. I have gotten myself into a slump. I have grazed alot... but still losing weight.. I have found I cant eat any meat anymore. even hamburger meat makes me sick to my stomach. pasta still cant do it either. I eat salads, fruit, yogurt, cheese, eggs. alot of soups.
I know I have to get back on track... I have always been one that taking pills or getting on a routine was hard for me to stick too. I guess the losing hair or getting sick wouldnt happen to me... But I already dreamed of my hair falling out . I have noticed it more on my pony tail holders or my brush.
I have my doctor appt Feb 15th and i have a slip to go get my blood work done now.. before my appt and I have put off going cuz I know my results will all be low...
I write this as Im crying because I am dissapointed in myself.. and I need you to tell me what can happen to me if I dont get back on track....
I know i could be thinner and healthier right now if i stuck to my plan... I went from a tight 20 to a 15.. I need to start excerising.
my vitamin B-12 im suppose to take that once a day in the mornings.. i have taken it once in the last 2 weeks : ((( I wont tell you the last time i took my iron and vitamin c becuase i dont remember and Im suppose to take 2 multi vitamins a day... and 2 calcuims... I skip days on those too : (( and its been awhile since Ive had a protein drink .
I just need a dose of reality and support...
thanks for being there Beth
First of all big hugs to you Beth. Admitting mistakes is hard to do, you have shown a lot of strength by telling us what is going on and asking for help. 40 lbs is no easy feat and you should be proud of what you have accomplished so far.
Beth you have to remember how important it is for us to take care of ourselves. The vitamins and protein are so important for our health. You don't want to have serious complications due to vitamin deficincies. You could end up suffering from life long nerve disorders, hair loss, tooth loss, weak bones, low energy and the list goes on.
Some suggestions on how to improve from where you are right now, first of all try your hardest to get in your food, water, and protein. Water and proper hydration are extremly important. Add some other protein dense items like beans, tuna, and such to your diet. You are still pretty early out and it make take a little while before meats agree with you. What doesn't work this week may work if you try it again in a couple of weeks. If the problems you are having with your protein is because you don't like what you have, keep trying more until you find some you like. A lot of the websites offer sample packs, it helps to try it out and costs a lot less than getting a big jug of something you might not like. For your vitamins, try writing out a schedule of when you need to take what, set an alarm on your watch or cell phone to remind you when you need to take something, keep spares sets of vitamins in your purse, beside your bed, in desk at work etc. in case you are out or already in bed and remember that you needed to take something. Sort your vitamins out per day in a pill box to help keep you organized. When you are feeling bad because of nutritional issues it makes it so much harder to be able to exercise properly. Start off slow on your exercising. Try just walking 10 minutes at a time, 3 x a day and work your way up to more. The more you get your body moving the better you will feel also. Find a local support group to attend if you can. Being around other people who have experienced what we are experiencing helps a lot.
Remember we love you and are here for you.

It's okay Beth. You still have a very big window of opportunity to take advantage of the rapid weight loss and maximize it to its fullest potential. Relax and take a deep breath. We are always the hardest on ourselves. You have already identified what you feel that you have slacked on. Today is a new day. Change your mindset..which you already have and being again !! We have have relapses to some degree because we are human. You can do it..and hey...40lbs is excellent !!! Have faith in yourself. You are doing and WILL DO great !!!
Hugs,
Dana
Beth,
With out sounding like I am flaming you .. I must tell you .. that if you do not get in your suppliments ... YOU WILL DIE ... yes, many say well .... I feel ok .. I have energy .. well in time your stored supply will be depleted and you will become ill .
As to your protein .. you MUST SUPPLIMENT .. if you can not get in the food .. this is a must ..
Sweety .. this is all a part of being an RNY patient .. it is for life .. and reality is this is how it must be .. always be .. or you can get very sick .. at worse die ..
Look at it this way .. Each day you are given ... is a gift .. I see my RNY surgery as a gift .. and I must do my part .. my part is taking my suppliments , keeping to a well balanced diet and I must exercise ..
I have the vitamin list if you want it . I posted it earlier . I have some other documents too that could help you as well .
If it sounds harsh .. well ... the harshness could be that you do not listen to any of these post and you continue to live the way you are .. and we all here face the harsh reality that you did not care enough to follow the rules .. Nuff said .. ???
Please take care of YOU !
Much love ,
Natalie
Vitamin B-12
Needed for: Energy production, red blood cell production, utilization of folic acid, nervous system function. Vitamin B12 is also known as cobalamin. Cyanocobalamin is the synthetic form. B12 has many functions with the most important being the nerve function. B12 and folate are metabolically interrelated. B12 converts folate to an active form. B12 is responsible for the manufacturing and normal functioning of red blood cells. It also helps metabolize carbohydrates and fats and synthesize proteins. B12 binds to Intrinsic factor, produced in the stomach. This no longer happens in the pouch, which is left after gastric bypass, causing B-12 deficiency in many patients. Deficiency symptoms can be manifested as anemia, nerve damage, fatigue, dementia and even coronary artery disease. There have been no reported toxic effects with high does of B12.
Vitamin B12 for Bypass Patients
Heat and moisture may change the action of the vitamin. Store in a cool dry place. High intake of vitamin B6 reduces B12 absorption. Smoking decreases vitamin B12 metabolism. For improved absorption, take B12 one hour before meals. Colchicine reduces absorption of B12.
Beth, thank you for posting hon I have been so worried about you!!!! We are all human and have set backs but please please if you listen to no one else please head Tinks warnings and take care of yourself. This is a lifetime commitment and I can tell you I have a cousin who is anemic and has to have infusions or transfusions...not sure which all because she didn't take her supplements. It is very important that you take control of what you need to do daily it is not just about eating right but supplements and protein play a huge part and we as RNY patients have to have these. Please Please take care of yourself!!! It is not too late....get on it girlfriend!!!
Love ya,
Anna
Hi Beth...We are all here for you to lean on in times like these...just want you to know that, ok? I am sure you are not the first person that this has happened to and will not be the last. At least you know you have problems and that is a plus!!! All you have to do is get yourself together and take control. Only you can do that. I have had a problem with not getting in all my protein myself and I can tell a change if I go too long. It is really hard to keep in your head all the stuff we have to do on a daily bases but to ensure we do get healthy we must follow the rules of the game. I slip once in awhile but realize...."Lisa, get yourself together and do like you was told!" I have to talk to myself sometimes....I guess I am a little crazy but to get threw this life we all have to be, right? If you jump off track just have a little talk with yourself and say I can do this. Following everything that needs to be done is hard at first but if you get in the habit is becomes second nature and gets easier with time.
Best of luck to you my friend,
Lisa S.
Beth,
It's time to hop right back on the horse! Don't stay down in the mud!
I use a pill keeper that has 4 slots per day and you fill it up once a week. This way I have a visual if I have taken my pills for the day. If I see I miss something, I can go ahead and take, even if it is late. If it were not for my pill keeper I never would keep all this straigt.
I start and end every day with a protein shake, whether I want it or no. The EAS shakes have 100 calories and 15 gram protein and are smaller than some of of the others. This is an "easy shake" cause their is no mixing, not as much protein as others, but it works for me. I try to get at least 30 grams of protein from food.
Don't be defeated. 40lbs is great and it is not too late to still lose all the weight you want.
