argh I'm doing exactly what I'm supposed to do for lap band, surgery was 2/27/07 measuring out my food, eating slowly, eating my protien first, 30/30/30 on drinking, 2 protien shakes daily, walking, drinking lots of fluids etc. yet I'm hungry! I have three meals and two shakes, and by 10 pm, I'm starving, stomach gurgling growling and aching hungry what is going on? also - I'm diabetic, would this cause me to be hungry?

Mary, a lot of people will tell you it is head hunger & the gurgling, growling, is the healing going on in your body. This could be true. The easiest way to determine is to get up at do something at that time when you are hungry, take a walk, etc. and then see if you are still hungry afterwards or if it passes once you do something. My suggestion based on my experience is to talk with your nutritionist or dr. I had the open RNY but found out pretty quickly that 3 meals, 2 shakes, wasn't enough for me due to my schedule and long days. I ended up having to do 3 meals, 2 shakes, and 1-2 snacks a day in order to keep my energy up, not starve my body, and keep my blood sugar up. courtney

Mary, I didn't have lap band but I did have RNY 6 months ago and I find that I get hungry if I don't eat a snack in between meals. I just try to eat a protein snack or vegs.... Good luck, Minette

Mary, Mary, Mary, I couldn't resist responding,...I am Joe Green. Congrads on your surgery and as a Lap Band patient, you are going to have more hunger than a RNY patient because you still have the same stomach you had except it has a collar restricting your intake. The hunger will susside as you maintain your new pace and the stomach shrinks and learns who is in-charge of what goes in. That being said, the ladies responses are also very sound advice. I had success with and still use Pure Protein Chocolate Deluxe protein bars, 170 calories, 20 grams of protein (avaiable at Target and WalMartand ) and 0 sugar but 7 gms Sugar Alcohol and should be eaten with 8 oz of water (more filling and makes it easier to go down). I have them as morning and afternoon snacks and sometimes two as a meal replacement. I also find the Quaker Oats (Oatmeal to Go) Breakfeast Bars (not with filling) like Banana Bread and Brown Sugar Cinnamon with 8 oz of water go good too but they have only 4 gms protein and 19 gm Sugar so it may be too early for you to have something like that. Some yogurt with or without protein powder mixed in would probably work weel for you too. Sound like yuo are doing a good job of fighting the good fight. Keep the faith and you will come off the conqueror and posting these terribly disgusting posts about having to find a size 6 dress for some crazy event.

thanks all, I called my nutritionist first, and both are off today! argh then I called my surgeon's office and they said that since I am diabetic, my blood sugar is probably going low and I should eat another meal, and that it should be fine. it sounded like a lot of "what ifs" and "possibly" .. frustrating. I'm still on puree, so that kinda limits what i can eat, but at least I don't feel worried or guilty now with wanting a 4th meal that really really worried me and I was struggling not to feel sick at night, like throw up sick. I definately do not want to vomit! and I haven't since the surgery thank goodness. thank you all for your advice, I hate not knowing if I'm doing something right or wrong
