addiction transfer on inside edition
I am interested in watching but would like to say that this not only happens w/ wls. It can happen w/ any addiction change. I have traded one addiction for another over my life time. This board is a perfect example. I used to be glued to it all the time and now i am not. Wish that an interview could be done on addiction transfer in general. It is definiatly true but not just pertaining to wls. It is w/ any addiction change. Just addictive personalities that some of us, like myself have. Some are good addictions, some not. Maybe that would shed more light on it as it affects a vast amount of people, not just us.

I agree, Shannon. How are you, btw? Haven't seen ya around much. They do need to highlight addiction transfers in general, but WLS seems to be the hot topic right now. Thankfully we do have an addiction board on OH that I frequent, it helps alot. Hope to see your beautiful face around these parts more often!
Amber
I definitely agree, as I stated in my post yesterday, any person with an addiction is at risk to transfer that addiction elsewhere. As Amber stated, WLS is a big topic right now in so many areas so that is where the focus is going to be, there probably is information of addiction transfer in general somewhere it just isn't being addressed that way.

Do you know what station it is on? I think there is too much made of addiction transfer after WLS because it can happen at any time - the majority of alcoholics, shopaholics, sexaholics were never WLS patients. If you have an addictive personality - which many of us do have in some form or another - you will always be in danger of swapping food for something else.
I would like to watch the show but fear it will be biased against us and get me irritated.....

Good Morning Jackie. You can check the website www.insideedition.com for your local listings. WLS is the hot topic in the world today so of course they are going to focus on the negative. Anyone with an addiction is at risk of transfering that addiction to something else. I am concerned about it being biased but at the same time would like to know more information and figure that is a good enough place to start and then I can do so more of my own research from there.

Hey Jackie,
I totally agree with you, and others that posted these thoughts. I for one have ALWAYS had a compulsive/addictive personality. I have swapped addictions since early childhood.. and it had absolutely NOTHING to do with weight loss.
Some of the recent hoop-la-la on these boards are bothersome. Those people who are trying to use weight loss surgery as a BLAME for poor decision making due to their own addictive tendencies are childish and irresponsible, and do the weigh loss community a disservice.. but they are also hurting themselves.
I'll be moving onto my next addiction here soon, i'm sure, but I wont be 'BLAMING' weight loss surgery (which, by the way, most definitely saved my life and those of countless others)

I think many of us have addictive personalities or else we would not have been overweight in the first place. I also have this theory that it is also linked to something in the brain that does not tell us when we are full. Naturally thin people seem to have some chemical in the brain that tells them when they are full so they know when to stop eating - whereas we don't seem to have that chemical. I could easily be a shopaholic but don't have enough money lol! And my husband wishes I was a sexaholic!lol
I do think it is an issue but I also think some people will use it as an excuse.... this surgery is such a wonderful thing for most people....
