Hi All, I am frustrated this morning. I had surgery on March 21st. I lost weight very well for the week that I was on the full liquid diet. My total loss 1 week after surgery was 20.2 pounds. Well, here we are another week later (after being switched to soft foods) and I have actually gained weight (1.2 pounds). I am soooo upset!!!! I am following directions - getting 60g-75g of protein, drinking at least 64 oz. water, walking every morning, etc. I am averaging 467 calories each day total. How can I have GAINED weight???? I was feeling so good about everything - no pain, eating right, exercising, etc. Now I am really sad! What should I do and why is this happening? Thanks, Robin

Robin... You are experiencing the typical post ip gitters...lol I think everyone of us has posted this same post somewherre along the way !! You will discover how your body loses weight on this journey. I, for example, would lose a few and gain one back..or not lose then lose a few pounds a week or so later. keep trak of it so you know how your body responds to the weight loss. Remember.. you have lost 20lbs FAST...and your body is trying to get some equalibrium. It won't last long. it is frustrating as hell...but it shall pass. keep doing what you are doing. i would tell you to stay off the scale, but I check mine daily to watch for weight loss and gain trends and to keep myself accountable. Hang in there !!! Did you get my email with the #'s? Love ya !!! Dana

Hey Dana, Thanks so much for making me feel better! I almost have to laugh at myself for making the post because I have read so many just like it in the past. BUt you know, you go through this surgery and have some unrealistic expectations at first, especially when the weight comes off so quickly at first. It kind of gets you thinking that maybe you are gonna defy the odds and lose all your weight immediately! Well, I guess I'll try to be a little more patient (patience is not something that I am very good at - I think we saw that when I was talking about changing surgeons because I didn't want to wait so long - he!he!) I was trying to stay off the scale because I ddin't want this frustration, but I caved and started weighing. I guess I've traded my my food addiction for a scale addiction . I'll have to lay off the scales for a while then maybe I can ease back into weighing myself slowly. I did get your numbers - I thought I sent you an email back. I'll give you a call soon! Or you can call me, too! Thanks again! , Robin

DO NOT LET IT DISAPPOINT YOU! Not sure if you recall some discussion the other night, but do not look at the scale and let it determine your day or mood. You cannot control that number. You can, however, control what you eat, drink and do. Focus on that and use the scale as an indicator as to whether you are doing your part. For some, that means weighing daily (like me) and for others it's weighing weekly or monthly. But, remember, when you weigh yourself, you are weighing your ENTIRE self. You are in your second week, you are losing. Don't dispare. To begin with, you have already lost 20 pounds. Your body is going "WHOA...What the.....". It will kick and scream, throw fits and act like a 2 year old. But....it will lose. Your body is adjusting to this change. I can assure you that you really didn't "gain weight" and are just holding on to some water for some reason. Have you pottied lately (#2)? Do you feel a bit dehydrated? It was a full moon yesterday (hey....when all else fails - hehehe) Based on what you said above...you are doing WONDERFUL! Especially at 2 weeks out. Not many can eat and drink that much, let alone move. So...keep up the GREAT work! But...hang in there. Let it roll off of your back, and enjoy the ride. If I showed you my weight charts (I weight myself daily) you would see over a year of roller coaster rides (really...up and down). And yes, sometimes it IS disappointing to work So hard and come up short. But....focus on the big picture, and enjoy the adventure. Jill 263/136/135

Hi Jill, I do recall our discussion the other night and that came to mind when I was getting myself all upset. All that kept running through my mind was that I denied myself of all this good food at bunko last night and my reward was a gain. I know I am being ridiculous expecting a steady loss so soon after such a big loss. On Sunday night I did potty a lot - I mean A LOT over several hours. Then yesterday I did not go at all. Today I have gone. I feel plenty hydrated, and a full moon does make me a little crazy . So who knows what it is. Thanks for the encouragement! That helps so much!!! I'll keep plugging away doing what I'm doing. I think I am just kind of feeling sorry for myelf this morning for some reason. I'm putting a stop to that right NOW! Thanks Again, Robin

Hey Goofball! I know exactly what you mean, but try and not worry (I know easier said than done). I only lost 15 pounds in the first week, but I lost 30 in the first month. It's really water weight that first week. Your body is just catching up and you'll lose another 7 pounds next week, I bet! Just keep it up, it's a little rocky at first, but you'll see. Next month will be another 20 or 30, but then its going to slow WAY down, so be prepared. Feel free to vent/rant here because we've all done it and will continue to do it from time to time! I'm only a phone call/email away! Amber

I know I am a goofball, but I can't help it! I hope youare right about the 7 pounds next week. That would be awesome! Thanks for your support and encouragement! I 'm feeling better already. I do think I am going to take a second walk each though to get in a little more non strenuous exercise. I'll give you a call soon! Thanks Again! , Robin

Sounds like you are doing everything right Robin. The weight gain probably is jus****er weight. Your body will do crazy things like that as it adjusts to what is going on. Don't be sad and don't get frustrated. Just keep up the great work. Courtney
