Anyone know how far out we need to be to drink soda? I am craving rootbeer and would settle for a diet rootbeer if at all possible. Thanks!!! Anna

Anna it really depends on what your surgeon/nut says. I at 17n months out still have not had any soda. I know that a lot of people who do go back to soda say that they have to struggle harder to lose their weight. Courtney

Anna, our surgeon absolutely forbids soda ever again. I am over a year out and have never had one. The gas is bad for us and there are also other chemicals in it that are bad for our bones. Plus recently they linked a study that said that people who drank soda had a better chance of gaining weight than those who stayed away from it. However in the end the choice is yours... Jackie

Thanks Jackie for your reply....I have to say I agree. It's just not worth the chance that I will give in to other cravings. Sticking to SF popsicles. Anna

Anna- I agree with the posts below. My doc says NO! to soda. The gas is too much for our tummy's and even a diet, flat, soda has too many excess calories, and chemicals that we just do not need. But....the choice is yours.......... Jill 263/135/135 (I DID IT!!!!)

i drank it from 2 or 3 months post op my doc never said it was forbidden and it never gave me gas. i have not gained any weight back nor has anyone i know that had the surgery. i only drank diet but they drink regular. they are way below goal weight might i add and are as far out as 4 years post op like me!! thats my situation. soda was not what made me fat to begin with and liquid wont stretch your pouch. gas is released thru belching and ya know the other. its best to start with iced up soda if you really need one to see how it settles. nope soda isnt good for you but neither is an ice cream or a cookie once in a while and i wont deny myself one either!! good luck!!

Oh...and let me add......... A friend of mine drank diet Mountain Dew starting in her 2nd month post op and as a result lost ZERO weight. Her doc was NOT happy when she went in with ZERO weight loss. And yes...they both contribute the zero weightloss to the diet mountain dew. why? Becuase if you can tolerate that, it opens the gates to what else can you tolerate. I recommend you ask your doc and go from there. Most will tell you heck no, it's empty calories, too many chemicals and the gas in the soda is in fact harmful to us. And as with anything else you will crave on your durney - would you absolutely, and truely, die if you did not have it?
