Jill- This is just the accountability I need to get back on track! I've signed up for your team, but I'll send you a PM with my full name in a few minutes. I didn't see where to get the free pedometer....any guidance or is it automatic if they still have supplies? Christina S

Under "What is the Woman's Challenge" on the left side of the website, it says: How can I register to participate? Beginning in April, participants can register online at www.womenshealth.gov/woman/register.cfm. Participants will receive a pedometer (while quantities last) and tracking log to record their progress throughout the eight weeks. They will also receive weekly motivational e-mails and health tips to help them reach their goal. Woman can choose to travel one of six different "virtual" courses across America. Under "Frequently Asked Qestions", under "Registration" it says: When will I receive my pedometer and tracking log? If you register for the WOMAN Challenge by May 1, 2007, you should receive your pedometer and tracking log before the Challenge begins on May 13, 2007. There is a limited supply of pedometers so register early! When the supply runs out, you can still register and participate in the WOMAN Challenge -- however, you will either need to supply your own pedometer, and download your tracking log, or participate by recording your daily physical activity in time or miles rather than steps. What if I register after you've run out of pedometers? That's okay! You can still participate in the challenge. All you have to do is purchase a pedometer for yourself and download the tracking log. You should be able to purchase a pedometer at a sporting goods store, a fitness center, or online. We recommend purchasing a pedometer that only tracks steps. They're easy to use! Alternately, you can participate in the WOMAN Challenge without a pedometer as well. All you have to do is download the tracking log to keep track of your daily physical activity in time duration or miles rather than steps. I'm recommending that if you want to track steps that you purchase a pedometer at Walmart or Target. You can get one for about $5.00 - $6.00. That way you have it in time to start on Mother's Day. Plus, it never hurts to have 2, because ANYTHING can happen. Glad you are on the team! Jill

You are on the team! The free pedometer will be automatically sent to you, provided there are supplies available. I recommend just picking one up at Walmart or Target, because you never know. BUT....you can set you goal based on duration or mileage as well. The website says: How do I decide what my weekly goals should be? This decision should be based on your current level of physical activity, as well as any mobility impairments that you may have. A goal of 10,000 steps a day is roughly equal to 5 miles in distance, and is considered to be the average amount of daily physical activity for a person with an active lifestyle. A goal of 30 minutes of physical activity at least five times per week is also considered an active lifestyle. Consider the following guidelines: Lifestyle Steps per day Minutes of exercise per day Miles per day Sedentary Less than 5,000 Less than 30 Less than 2.5 Low activity 5,000 to 7,499 30 to 44 2.5 Somewhat active 7,500 to 9,999 45 to 59 3.75 Active 10,000 or more 60 or more 5 There are no national guidelines regarding physical activity for people with mobility impairments. As a result, it is important to consider your current level of physical activity when deciding your goals for the WOMAN Challenge. You should assess which goal is best suited to your physical activity level and most achievable for you. Your healthcare provider may be able to assist you in this decision. We encourage you to challenge yourself by increasing your daily physical activity each week as part of the WOMAN Challenge. Hope this helps! Glad you are on the team! Jill
