Nothing tastes good!

Hi All, I cannot seem to really find anything tastes good most days lately. Has anyone else had this problem? I still do not really have any appetite which was okay when food tasted good. It was easy to make myself eat because everything I tried tasted good. Lately, the only things that taste good are seaweed salad, tuna sashimi, filet mignon, garlic green beans, and tomatoes with a splash of vinagrette. I can't afford to eat sashimi and filet mignon everyday; so i don't know what to do. I hardly ate anything yesterday because nothing that I tried tasted good making it very hard to force myself to eat. Anything with a dairy product (eggs, cheese, milk, yogurt, etc.) leaves a very sour taste in my mouth. Water doesn't taste good either; I even felt like gagging when I did my protein bullet. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Robin

Robin are you having problems with allergies? I know that when I get a sinus infection or stuff draining down the back of my throat it really makes everything I eat taste yucky. I do remember going through stages of not really liking the way anything tasted but that also had to do with not having an appetite. It does get better. Courtney

Hi Courtney, Fortunately, no allergies; so it's not related to that. I know that I am in ketosis from eating practically no carbs; so I have a bad taste in my mouth all the time that gets worse when I eat dairy. When you went through theses stages, did you just force yourself to eat or did you get your nutrition from the protein drinks? I am really having trouble forcing myself to eat since I have no appetite and nothing tastes good. I never in a million years thought that I, the girl who LOVED food and could eat anytime anything anywhere, would not be able to find anything that I wanted to eat. I didn't think I was going to have this problem since eating has not caused me any problems up until now. I'm glad to hear that it gets better, but what do I do in the meantime? Thanks, Robin

Hi Robin I remember the ketosis very well!!! That metallic taste sure does make the food you eat unbecoming!!..... If you are having a hard time getting in liquids etc..try ice cubes..you can take your favorite crystal light..mix it up with the water and pour into the ice trays and once frozen..take them out and crush them. eat with a spoon...it will still give you your liquids you need plus the ice will help with the metal taste. Maybe sugar free popsicles would be a good alternative too. if you aren't drinking you do need to try to get in your protein as best you can. Hopefully soon your taste buds will try something they like. Search the stores for alternatives in what you really like eating. Maybe something will snap out at you. Good luck ..wish I was more of a help as far as eating goes. hugs JudyB

Hi Judy, Thanks for the advice. I have not been able to drink Crystal light or eat sugar free popsicles since surgery though. They taste way too sweet! I'm still forcing myself to drink because I am thirsty; so fortunately that's not a problem. It's just that I can't seem to force myself to eat food that tastes bad. I did go to our local Chinese take-out place and get some egg drop soup for lunch. That tasted pretty good after adding lots of salt and pepper. I'll finish that for dinner and just keep doing protein until I get back on track with my eating. Thanks for your support! , Robin

I am not sure I ever went fully into ketosis. I was such a slow steady loser and did have carbs because of my blood sugar issues so I didn't really get fully into the ketosis stage. When I did have issues because of no appetite etc. I would force myself to eat some but that is just how I chose to do it. I know a lot of people would rather do protein drinks instead of forcing themselves to eat. courtney

Robin, I know this doesn't have anything to do with your food not tasting good, but I wanted to pass on something I read yesterday. If you are using the protein bullets please check the kind of protein you're getting in those. Some have lots of protein from a source that's not good for us. They say whey bullets but only part of the protein is from whey and the other is a low quality. Some peoples protein levels were coming back low and they contributed it to that. Sheila

I totally agree. I feel the same way sometimes when I comes down to food. I hope this is a phase that we are going through and as we become months into our journey things will get better. Stay strong Robin Mo

Thanks, Mo. Glad to hear that I am not the only one feeling this way. I'll stay strong. Together we'll all make it through this! , Robin
