Does Tricare prime pay for plastic surgery?

Hello, I'm starting to research and learn about reconstructive surgery. I can't find any people who had Tricare Prime Insurance and got approvals for lower body lifts. Or maybe thigh lifts or butt lifts that were ever approved by insurance. Do you have this insurance or know of someone that has had it and was able to get these procedures approved? Was it done at a military hospital or were you able to go outside to a civilian doctor with an approval from TPI? Any thoughts or ideas would be very helpful, or if you could point me in the right direction where I can do my own research I would be very grateful. Thank you for your reply and guidance, Ella

Hi Ella! I believe there is an insurance forum and a plastics forum here on OH. I would try there and see what info you can get. Courtney

I have tricare prime and from all my research they will NOT do plastics unless it is for reconstruction..So have your dr's always note any issues you have as rashes, back pain..ect..Also keep in mind to..with recontruction as to say a breast lift..they will not pay for implants..your on your own for that cost..Only way they cover that is if you had a masectomy..Good Luck..I still have time before giving this a shot.

I was at one of the GBP Support Group meetings at Portsmouth when this was discussed. As Naomi said above, unless there is some sort of underlying problem that you are having, like a rash under your skin flaps, it's very difficult to get. More than that, you have to be referred to PS for that problem. From there, you aren't put on the 'list' til you've paid in full, and from that point, the waiting is still very long, apparently.
