Approved!
I got my approval letter yesterday! Dr. Schirmer's office also contacted me saying that I need a cardiac clearance test. Has anyone ever had that done? What exactly is it? I can't remember ever needing that test before any other surgery.
I am just so excited thinking that I am almost there. WOW!

Bec,
Congratulations on your approval!!!
I'm so glad that the insurnace gods were good to you! I remember how I felt when I got that news!!
I can't help with the cardiac clearance test - it's one of the few that I didn't need to have done. I'm sure all will go well. Let us know when you get your date!
Take care,
Chele

Hi Bec
Congratulations on your approval!!!! What a relieved and nervous feeling you must be experiencing right now..I am so happy for you! I am not sure on the cardiac clearance test, unless the doc was talking about a stress test. If that is it..there are several ways they can do it, if you can't tolerate walking on a treadmill..they can do what is called a nuclear stress test, which is where they give you medicine to increase your heart rate, they try to get your heart rate up to what they believe your target heart rate should be, I never fully reached mine because It made me a little nauseous..but they gave me meds to bring my heart rate back down immediately and the nausea went away pretty quickly. This may be what they mean by cardiac clearance test.
Good luck to you

Rebecca!
Congrats on your approval!
As for the cardiac clearance, could they mean an EKG type test? I think I had to do something like that....so many I forget now. I wouldn't let it worry you though....most of them are just so they can get an idea of how to administer/perform something during surgery (like the happy juice!). I'm sure you'll "pass" with flying colors!
Keep us posted!

Wahoooo!!!! It is always such a good feeling when you get those words!!
I had a ton of tests and one of them was an EKG - maybe that is what they mean. I actually failed the EKG and I had a heart murmur - which pancked me but they sent me to a cardiologist and he gave me another test and then also took me for a stress test - then declared I was fit for surgery.... apparently I have a small leak in my mitra valve which is common for overweight people and needs no repair. I was scared for a while but glad that they at least did not send me for surgery without checking things out. And all of this happened over a few days and did not delay my surgery.
I am sure you will do fine with the test!
Let us know when you get a surgery date!
