Hi Everyone
Congrats Jodi. Every person goes through a slightly different experience. Is this your surgeon writing the letter or your pcp? Usually you wait for the insurance approval, then go throught e necessary steps for insurance like psych testing, nutrition classes, lab work, egd, etc. and then you get a surgery date.

For those of us in the Hampton Roads area who used Norfolk Surgical Group, the process is just the opposite of what many others experience.
I had to go to a seminar, go to a consultation appointment with my surgeon, get my psych eval, go to a support group meeting, go to an allday nutrition and exercise class, get my bloodwork, EKG, and Chest xrays, and then they send off for approval. Once approved, I had to wait to get my surgery date and a date for preop bloodwork and more education classes before I could have surgery. It took from August 2006 until March 21, 2007 for me to have surgery (a little longer than many because I got denied twice before I finally got approved), but well worth the wait. Wednesday I will be 8 weeks post op and as of this morning, I have lost 40 pounds!!!!
Good luck to you!!! Keep us all posted on your progress!

Hurraaay! That is great news! As for the steps and what will happen next really depends on who your referral is to and who you'll decide to get the surgery with. Just make sure that you understand everything and ask a ton of questions. I'm sure you'll get a lot of education and you'll be just fine. I thinks most people get scared or have some form of fear, but it's a good kind of fear you know? Trust me that too shall come to past, as with your weight. Goodluck on your Journey!
