long term post op tooth decay issues

i am coming up on my 5 year anniversary in august, and i am doing well maintaining my weight where i want. i very vitamin conscious and take my b12 and multivitamin everyday without fail. my issue is over the last year i have had 3 fillings and now this week i will have to have 3 more, and my dentist suspects it has to do with my gastric bypass surgery. he has about 10 patients that have had the surgery and he has seen similar trend among the others that are approaching the post op time of several years or more. is anyone else having this problem and does anyone had an idea whats causing and what to do about it ?  thanks, hope all have a great weekend! greg

HI Greg First of all, let me say i am sorry you are experiencing problems with your teeth. the first thing that popped into my head as i read your post was Calcium and Vitamin D.  I know you said you are taking a multivitamin and b-12..but what about calcium citrate and vitamin D?? hugs

HI There Greg ...  And yes , My dentist has clearly marked my tooth breakage as linked to my gastric bypass . He told me that when I was first out , and I did a lot of vomiting that it broke down the enamel on my teeth .  I will be 3 years out tomorrow .. and I havve 4 broken teeth . All which will need to come out and brirges be inserted .  I also have Osteoporosis .. whick I maintain with Boniva .. and my normal calcium suppliments and vit D ...  I have upped my calcium at this point .. hopeing I wil not loose any more . I would go to your PCP or your surgeon and see if they will do a bone density scan . It cannot hurt .  Hope this helps .  Nat
