3 Year Surgiversary Today !!
3 Years ago today , I stepped out of my car , walked to the surgical suite at St.Mary's In Va ... and had Open RNY . It was the most life saving decision I have ever made .
I started at 325 pounds ... Size 24-28.. just depended on what type of stretchy material I could find to wrap my big ole body in at the time .
My inspiration , well she knows the story and I will give you a brief version , as it always makes me cry ...
Before I even decided to have the surgery , I sat down at the computer . Looking at profiles and finally found one with in my are . Guess Who ?
Leilani ... her story touched me so much , and by the time I was finished reading it .. I felt like freaking superwoman , that there was nothing I could not do . I ran and got my daughter Amy who was living with me at this time and I had her read some excerpts from her profile . I looked at Amy .. and said " If this woman can do all of this and has such a great attitude .. a REAL attitude .. then I can too... With tears streaming down both our faces by this time... I knew what I had to do ....That same week I signed papers to have my surgery . So Lei knows my gratitude for sharing her story ... but I want you here to know as well .. This beautiful woman helped to see that there is life with in this new world ... we now call RNY ... Gastric By Pass Surgery . So again Lei .. on year # 3 .. Thank You !!
I have gone on to loose 200 pounds , remaining at a weight of 125 ... still fighting demons ... exercising .. and keeping the promise I made to myself , that I would use this tool I was given .. NO MATTER WHAT ... and given a slip of eating some chocolate , or Munchos here and there .. I have been able to do it .. I have learned my punishments for eating bad .. and have rewarded myself when I am good .
Friends .. OMG in three years I have gained so many friends from this surgery , Before I had none ... I went through life only knowing my children , husband at the time .. and my career . SO very lonely .. Now .. I have more friends from all over the country and close by as well .
This past year has been a roller coaster , I was diagnosed with a huge tumor , where I spent a month and a half at NIH trying to get the dang thing figured out . I met the man of my dreams .. Got married ... went to the Bahamas ... swam with dolphins ..
My Mom who just recently past was my biggest cheerleader .. and I knew even before she went how proud she was of me ... just this past year she really began showing me off ... and I laugh when I type this .. but to all her friends , I was her prize ..and I thank her for that ..
So for all you newbies out there .. or those thinking about having the surgery . It has worked for me ... in ways I can never repay .. and so today I celebrate for all those with surgery dates coming up ... and I pray for those that still remain Obese and feel helpless .. there is hope out here ...
So , Now at a size 2-4 I have started my 2nd round of plastics - coming up June 4th . This is going to be it for a while .. but I am as happy as a Cheshire Cat .. the grin on my face is never ending .. it has taken a while to get here .. but I am a firm believer if you want it bad enough .. you can do it .
Thanks to all my friends here , and else where for sticking with me .. and for loving and caring ... my heart has changed because of you .

Congrats!!!!!!!!! Natalie and know you to have inspired so many people yourself with your story. I soon to be 2 years out have but one wish and that be at my 2 yr an 3 yr anniv. to be able to say im out of the 20's and into a single number but have had a real hard time with that the last 6 month. So If there is a diet you follow and lie follow please post it for us one struggeling to get this extra weight off. Myself I am so blessed to be where I am toady 410 to 240 but I feel myself becoming more depressed as each passing week as the weight isint going. Im tring to get the water. Im tring to do the exercise I cant to as you all but I try to do some everyday. So any pointers, or menu's we can follow would be great. Im gonna conquer this demon one way or the other. Im scheduled to go back July 3rd for the second consult w/ plastics Id like another 20 pounds off. I know thats HIgh but If I can get 1/2 of that Ill be pleased. Best of luck on your plastics upcoming. We love you and are sure glad to see your face back here where is belongs now if we can get some of the others back.
