Alright all of you newly post ops (1 day to 1 year) where are you hiding?  Haven't seen much of you guys lately.  I want updates on those wonderful journeys.  Are you guys having any problems or issues?  Struggling with anything?  Just remember we are here for you.  No question or concern is too little or too big.  Having those with experience to help is so important.  :)

OK - I'll be the first newbie to "report in".  I'm a really recent post-op...one week!  I had a great hospital experience - very little pain, very few pain meds, lots of walking and in general a very easy stay.  Had a bump in the road on my first day home when I learned that Percocet and I don't get along anymore. Since then, I"ve had no issues with food (other than really working to get all my protein in each day), taking my supplements or getting in most of my fluids each day.  I may not hit 64oz every day - but I'm really close, and I'm happy with that.  Staples came out yesterday (one week post op) and I'm walking at least 1.7 miles each day.   Had my first little WOW moment yesterday - I'm down 11 pounds since surgery (which puts me within 5 pounds of my "wedding weight" - which was my lowest in many, many years)...that was an unexpected surprise...I honestly didn't expect to show any loss in a week.  Other than that - nothing else to report....OK - who's next? Take care Hugs, Chele

Wow Chele you are doing great!  11 lbs is awesome and you are progressing so well with your water & protein.  I found my water intake has always been my biggest area of struggle.  Keep up the great work.  :) Courtney

Hey Ms. Thang! I guess I'm still considered a newbie even at 10.5 months out.  The weight is still coming off....but I'm certainly not doing what I could be to make it happen even faster. I find myself thinking "I should go for a bike ride" or "I should pop in that exercise DVD"...but then don't.  With all of the other stress going on in my life, I know that exercise would help (physically and mentally), but just can't find the determination/motivation to really DO it. Of course, that in and of itself is defeating mentally....isn't that what got me into trouble (along with the sweets!) in the first place??  UGH.... SO....doing fine, but a bit discouraged.

Yep you are a newbie still.  The exercise thing is an issue, I found it so hard to get back into after my gall bladder surgery.  I am still struggling.  Doing a lot better than I was but some days it is hard to push.  I definitely find the mental help is amazing.  Just remember that we aren't perfect.  Keep on trying and you will succeed.  :) Courtney

I'm two months out at this point.  I lost 40-45 pounds after surgery and then stopped for 3 weeks.  Man those were long three weeks!  However, as of today, I've lost another 8 pounds so I guess it is going to work!  I've updated my avatar, I think it reflects the weight loss already. One of my Wow moments is that I can fit in a 26/28.  I couldn't do that for 12+ years.  I can now officially buy anything in Walmart!  Weird to be excited by that, but I like the fact that I don't have to order my clothes anymore. I am struggling with exercise.  I went through a pseudo depression around a month out and found it hard to be motivated to move.  I'm okay now but having a hard time kick starting.  I'm still exercising at least 3 times a week, but that's not enough. The other thing I think we all struggle with at first is how much should we be eating/drinking.  We all know ballpark but we're each a little different, as are our surgeons.  I wonder how much food I should be eating at one sitting at 2 months out. Thought I'd share for those that remember me. Take care. Ellen

I see you hit your first stall.  They are tough but remember when the weight isn't moving usually the inches are.  What a great wow moment with many more to come.  Exercise is a hard thing to put into the routine.  3x's a week is a very good start.  Actually because of my work schedule I usually only do structured exercise 3 days a week.  If you feel like you need more then add a few little things in like a walk at lunch time or something.  You are so right about the eating issues too.  At two months out I was just starting to eat solid foods instead of purreeing everything.  At that point I was eating about a 1/4 of a cup total.  I found it easier to measure by ounces.  I never really did much measuring, I eyeballed most things.  I just made sure to take things very slowly and learn what my bodies reaction to being full was so I didn't make myself sick.  Hope some of this helps.  Keep up the great work.  :) Courtney

Hey Courtney, I have been post op since Mar. 2, 2007. I doing good have lost almost 50 pounds. I am really not liking food as much but I am doing good some what  ok with it. I am getting in my protein I am getting in about 100 grams a day.  They weight loss is slowing down but I am fine with that too. I think my biggest problem is staying active. I was going to get a bike but can't find one that I really like. It is getting hot out and I don't like heat and don't really want to have the twins in the heat to much. I guess I making excuses but I am just having a hard time staying active. I want to do somthing everyday but just haven't. Other then that I guess over all I am doing good. Mo

Hey Mo!  Sounds like you are doing great.  If you feel like you might be slowing down some right now you might be getting ready to hit a stall.  Try not to flip out about it too much.  Your body needs to take the break in order to absorb everything that is happening to it.  You will probably find if you do stall and lose no weight that the inches will start coming off.  Not having much of an appetite is pretty normal.  Make sure that you are having yummy tasting foods.  It sure does make it easier to force yourself to eat something if it is flavorful.  You are doing great with your protein intake.  It is hard to stay active.  I also struggle with that.  Keep on trying til you find that one activitiy that you really enjoy and can't wait to do.  :) Courtney

Hi Courtney, I am 10 weeks post op as of today.  I have lost 50 pounds and am almost half way to goal (only 5 pounds until I am halfway); for a total of 60 pounds left to lose to reach my surgeon's goal of 130 pounds.  I am no longer taking my blood pressure or cholesterol medications and have dropped from a size 22 to a size 14.  I have no food issues except that I am not hungry much and cannot eat fish or strawberries.  I am loving watermelon and salad right now.  I do get my protein, vitamins, calcium, and B-12, and water in everyday.  I exercise at least 1 hour per day - usually more like 1.5 hours.  I am just loving life - enjoying going to parties and not being a slave to food - just hanging out and socializing with friends.  I am not really struggling with anything at all (knock on wood) right now.  Everything is great! I appreciate all of the help and support from everyone on this board so much.  I don't know where I'd be without ya'll! Thanks, Robin
