I get daily emails from About.com regarding various fitness issues.  Today's was pretty good, so I thought I would share pieces of it. Strength Training Though strength training is often neglected in favor of other activities, it's just as important when it comes to your health. Strength training has been proven to:

* Strengthen bones, muscles and connective tissue

* Prevent injuries

* Improve balance, coordination, endurance and strength

* Increase metabolism

* Preserve muscle mass and keep weight in check as you age

If you haven't done any strength training, the resources below will teach you the basics of what exercises you can do and how to set up a program for yourself.  * Weight Training 101 <http://exercise.about.com/cs/exerciseworkouts/a/weight101.ht m> .

This is great information, Jill!  I love strength training.  After a good weightlifting session, your muscles are totally fatigued and you feel like jello for a while, but then you feel so strong after that.  Then when you start seeing the muscle shape start to emerge from beneath the layers of fat, it really brings on the smiles.  I am so glad that almost all of my routines that I do incorporate strength training of some sort, wither with hand weights or resistance bands. Thanks for sharing this with us! ~Robin

I have been doing my weights, but only light and 3 reps of 10 or 5 reps of 10. Depending on what part of the body. I don 't want to build a lot of muscle right now. I did 50 min today at the gym. Yeah me!!!
