i have finally broken my plateau, right before my 4 year anniversary from rny, june 18th. i was 260 and now im 155. i have lost 27 pounds since march being on topamax, its been the best thing to happen to me since my wls. i just found out i have an over active thyroid too. im still disgusted with my saggy neck from my plastic surgeon. im left with one saggy side. i wasted 7500.00 when i should of used it for something else. i feel so guilty knowing my son needs a new manual wheelchair and this doc got all that money. ok i cant talk about that anymore it gets me to heated.

Hi Shelly Congratulations on breaking that plateau.  I am on topamax too for migraines and it is certainly a good drug.  Sorry to hear about your problems with your neck...and the plastic surgeon you aren't happy with. hugs

That is great Shelly.  Congrats!  Sorry about the plastics issues.  Maybe return to the dr & demand corrections.

Hi.  I just have a quick question about the topamax.  I was on it for migranes, but the side effects were driving me crazy.  I loved the fact that I hated the taste of soda while on it but I did not like all the numbness in my fingers and toes.  So I stopped taking it.  The doctor told me if I stayed on it, it would help me loose some weight.  I just take imitrex now.  Do you think the topamax helped with weight loss?  Did your headaches get any better after WLS?  I heard that some people get less headaches after they loose weight.  I was just wondering if that would be something else I could look forward to once I have my WLS.

Thanks! Christina

oh my christina, i started taking topamax in at the end of jan. started at 25 mg, increased it 25 mg every 4 to 5 days till i reached my 225 a day  it took till the middle of march and then the weight started falling off i went from 182 to 155 by my 20th. i the the tingling but it subsided and i havent had any headaches at all. my docs can take anything but never my topamax!!  i know several others that have had dramatic results like me. i miss my soda, my coke zero, but it tastes horrible. i know there is no magic pill but this is for me. im still in aww about it and so is my hubby and my friends.my doc that put me on it is a rny patient herself and used it to get to goal and still is on it for the last 3 years and she is now a weightloss md. i have her personel cell number and she is so nice i just love her. she lives in richmond. the fda is going to approve it for weighloss. maybe you should give it another try and the numbness will subside like mine did. i dont have it at all anymore, i did the first couple of month. what was your dosage? get back with me!! id really like to know. shelly
