Fruit = Gassy?

Hi there! I have a question for all of you, but let me explain.  With the summer melons coming into season I've been eating a bit more fruit...yummy!  I'm talking watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, strawberries and bananas mostly. I'm finding that when I eat the melons, I get gassy and burp up a storm for a bit afterwards. Priscilla (my pouch) also gets terribly noisy (not normally an issue for me)!  I don't feel bad (not like I'm dumping on the sugars), just a bit uncomfortable from the gassiness.  Anyone else experience this? Any thoughts? I love fruit so I'd hate to have to give it up!

Hey Christina, Been there and sometimes I am there again. I eat lots of fruits/fresh fruits however in small amounts anymore. Fruit such as watermelon has a high natural sugar content so for me I eat it and others in very small amounts. You may find that some fruits like grapes and strawberries get your system cranky with their skins. They are harder to digest and Drucilla (my pouch) gets really cranky. I eat a couple bananas a week and otherwise I sparingly ea****ermelon and strawberries. I'll eat kiwi, pineapple, pears, pomegranate and now and then some grapefruit and peaches. I also eat blueberries, cherries and black berries in my yogurt. Its a learning process of how much your pouch can handle and which ones make you gassy and which ones do fine. I wish you the best with it as fruits are very good sources for many nutrients. I wouldn't say give up on them but try one type today and see how it goes then tomorrow and so forth. Good luck!

I have to say that I am pretty lucky that I can ea****ermelon  but if I eat a bit more than I really should then I get the gas and the grumbling that you are talking about. What I did to combat that was have fruit salads where instead of just having all watermelon, I mixed it with some melon, blueberries and strawberries or bababas and grapes,  so that I am not really eating very much of each but still having a nice small serving of fruit.  And when I was feeling decedant I also have a decent spoonful of sugar free cool whip on top! Yum - now I am hungry lol!
