What is Ketosis???
This is what I was able to find to answer your question. Ketosis (keh-toe-sis) is a stage in metabolism occurring when the liver has been depleted of stored glycogen and switches to a fasting mode such as occurs during sleep, during dieting, and during the body's response to starvation. It is the bodys way of letting you know that you need to increase your water intake and fluids so that the body does not starve itself. This is really bad when you have been sick and not keeping things down. That is why everyone must hydrate their bodies when it is really hot outside and when they are sick. I hope this helps you and if want more answers you can go to ask.com and type it in and it will give you answers.
Good am Mo,
Ketosis is: An abnormality of the body's metabolic process, resulting in an increase of ketones in the blood, which can increase the risk of developing kidney stones. Ketosis is prevented by eating at least 100 grams of carbohydrates a day. Ketones are waste products in the body that are a result of fat burning.
In a nutshell, our body is considered to be starving because of our low caloric intake following surgery. Protein first of course and eating fruits and vegetables generously (if tolerable) are great ways to help combat Ketosis. Keep in mind a tidbit I think many of us here have learned...with fruits and vegetables its trial and error. Meaning the skins of both and sometimes natural sugar of fruits can make our pouches a bit grumpy.
Hope this helps you out a bit.
