Trying to get back on track

I have been lurking and haven't responded or talked much for the past several months.  Mostly because I am somewhat disgusted with myself.  I am 16 months out now, have lost 102 pounds, which is ok.  But I had lost this as of January and have been at a stand still since.  When April rolled around and my one year check up was due I cancelled cause I was so upset about going in at the same weight I was previously.  I feel like a bad kid. I don't feel like I am overeating most of the time, however, I do have great trouble with snacking.  I sit at work all day and think about the next snack.  Some days I do better than others, I feel like a yo yo. Bottom line, I don't want to fail.  I am at 168-170 and need to lose 20-30 more pounds.  And I need to get the courage up to go in for my much overdue appointment!  Well, that is my story, pathetic isn't it!  Lorraine

Hi Lorraine, No you are not pathetic. I suggest and some of the other guys might or might not say the same thing but maybe you should go back to the basics like. Do your protein-excersice-water. Like you did when you first had surgery. Cut the carbs out or a least lower them. Go and make a appoinment with your nutritionist so you can get back on track. I hope this help... Montego

Thanks Montego!  I agree I need to get back to basics.  The carb thing is definately a problem I have.  Snack well cookies, pretzels, and popcorn are my downfall.  Today i only brought some nuts for a snack and no money for the devil vending machines.

I can understand, I know it is hard. Just snack on stuff that is higher in protein and lower in carbs and no sugars at all, drink your water and or crystal light which I live by.  Hope this help and good luck. Montego

Lorraine I don't know what your surgeon or nutritionist recommends to you about eating nuts, but my surgeon's assistant told me on my last visit, no peanuts, cashews, etc.  She said to eat almonds, maybe some walnuts every now and then and a few pecans if i wanted them.  Peanuts for me are a big no no.  Another idea I have, maybe a small cooler with crystal light and some fruit in it would work for ya hope this helps hugs

Lorraine HI there honey.  First off, let's back up here for a minute and try to remember when it was you lost 102 pounds.  That isn't failure.  You aren't a failure.  Don't put that negative word into your vocabulary.  Know this, that there will be times when you will not lose, there will be times where you will lose.  Right now, your body is breaking.  Mine did from October until April.  I didn't lose a pound, not one ounce.  Then I decided, ok, I have a tool, I am going to use it and put it to the test.  So, I counted my calories, would not allow myself to go over 1000 per day.  Then i exercised slowly in the beginning.  After a couple of weeks, the pounds starting melting off again.  In a month i lost 15 pounds!.  Try cutting the snacking out, and if you must snack, snack on the good stuff, carrot sticks, celery, protein bars, fresh fruit, and limit them to twice a day, and stop eating after around 7 or 8 at night.  Any amount of exercising you do will help.  LIke I said, please start slow and work your way up.  When you feel like you are getting out of control with snacking, stop and think ,,now am i really hungry.  post a before pic on the fridge, at work , in your car, anywhere that triggers snacking.  Take a 10 minute walk, drink some water and you will feel better about yourself.  But please don't think you are pathetic, you are going through a plateau and sometimes they can last for weeks to months even.   In no way put that word, "failure", back into your vocabulary. hugs

Thanks so much for the reply.  I feel alittle better knowing that you also had a extended plateau also.  I will attempt to remove failure and just look at it as a temporary setback instead.  I am going to head back to fitday (got out of the habit, big mistake) and limit my calories more.  Thanks again!

HI Lorraine Fitday is a wonderful website isn't it?  I use it often myself.  I know this is hard for you and I know it isn't as easy said as done, but You will move past this i just know it.  You coming here and posting about your concerns was the first step to moving yourself beyond this point in your process.   Good luck and if i can help in any way..please don't hesitate. hugs

I agree with Montego: cut the carbs. I reached goal at one year out. Not my goal, but a compromise of MY goal and the doctor's. The nut told me "Lose no more or we will consider you underweight"--at 146 no less! Well, my coaching season came up and I eercised MUCH less, this after my hysterectomy in Nov. I went up 11 pounds. BUT once tennis was over and school let out I CUT THE CARBS and lost 6 pounds in a week. Sadly, the closer I get to 146 the older I look which at 56 makes me look REALLY old. I am very happy with the way myf ace looks 150-152. 146 makes my cheeks really saggy. ANYWAY--cut the carbs and up the exercise. I hike 5-8 miles a day. Summertime is the time for you to accomplish this. Good luck! Lois
