I am still trying to incorporate new and different things into my diet.  When is it to soon:  to eat bread (whole Wheat) Rice (brown) and like how much to eat of it. Begals. potatoes, sweet or white I think I figured out why I can't lose this nagging 10 pounds that seems to stick with me. I think I am not getting in enough calories. I know I average about 500 calories a day.   What do you think? This is my daily meal: breakfast:       35 grams of protein shake, 2 slices of turkey bacon, 1 hard boiled egg lunch:             salad, with regular dressing but dipping salad in it instead of pouring in on the salad snack:            another protein shake 35 grams of protein dinner:            baked, grilled, chicken. before bed :   another shake pretty much this is almost to what I am doing. I still don't like eating much but I am also scared to try more stuff. At 4 months out, what should I be eating???? Montego

I always start by telling you to alway follow your surgeons protocol . We all have different times that new foods are introduced into our lives . For me here is my take on it all . Rice (brown) Explodes in my pouch .. I do not eat it . Too Carby and Starchy .. even though it is brown rice . If you get clearance to have it .. only eat the brown rice .. and watch the amount . It can fill you up quick .  Begals.  I was 2 years out before I did any bread . Bagels are so gooey... and honestly sweety .. these are trigger foods and at your stage should be avoided like the plauge . Try english muffins toasted instead .  potatoes, sweet or white  I did pototaes my 2nd month . Mashed only .  Sweet potatoes are my best friend . Lower in carbs ... tastier ... and you can do a lot with them .  It is so hard to get away from the trigger foods . Bread was my biggest fall down when I was obese , but I know that eleminating it from my diet is what helped me to be succesfull .  If you are craving these things ... Try eating some whole wheat crackers , English Muffins ..  But always check with your surgeon to see if it ok to try these at your stage .  Hang in there ok ...  Nat

Well Mo 500 calories is definitely not enough, you should be about 700 right now.  As for adding stuff in, you can do it at any time as long as the doctor says it is okay and just go slow and be careful.  Some suggestions for the bread/bagels, definitely try the wheat or whole grains varieties and toast them.  Bread is a moist item and it expands with the juices in your tummy and it fills you up quick.  Toasting it helps to take the moisture out so that it sets better.  My stepmom has had surgery and she still toasts her bread most of the time and she is 5 years out.  Rice is another one of those things that expands.  I have a hard time with rice and if I am not careful it swells right up and I am miserable.  I was eating sweet potatoes from my pureed stage.  I loved them and they were so easy on my tummy.  Definitely look at your diet and try adding some stuff to it.  Add some fruits/veggies to those meals so that you have some variety.  It will also give you more calories, some fiber & other vits. & nutrients that you need.  Throw some meat onto that lunch time salad, deli meats like ham & turkey are good, throw some tuna on there for a tuna salad salad, grilled chicken, grilled steak, etc.  Keep on trying girl, you can do it.

Montego I agree with the others, follow the advice of your doctor. If he has cleared you to eat what you stated in your post then do it in moderation. Take it from an old head post op ,do not overdo it with carbs. Treat them like a deadly sin. By the way I live south of you in Stafford,if you want to meet for lunch or dinner sometime then drop me an e-mail. Raven

Thanks Raven, Lunch or dinner would be nice. Stafford is not that far.  I just trying to find ways to add more calories to my diet. I have a appointment with my surgeon next week. I will talk to him about it then. Montego
