EGD Test

Hi everyone, I am having an EGD on Friday morning and i am a little nervouse about it. Could someone who has had this test let me know what to expect. Thanx, Cheris

This is an endoscopy.  They will have you get undressed and into a gown.  They will start an IV.  They will wheel you back to an endoscopy suite - crowded room... smallish w/ lots of equipment.  They'll hook you to monitors and talk to you.  Then they will have your roll on your side and bit down on a piece of plastic (looks like a pacificer with the part to suck on) and *poof* you'll be out cold because as you roll on your side they'll give you a very light sedation in your IV. Next thing you know you are in recovery and they'll have you sit up and sip on a drink and eat crackers.  Within 30-45 minutes you'll be getting dressed and going home. Might have a tiny bit of a scratchy throat afterwards but very mild. The doc will talk to you afterwards and give you a full color picture of your stomach and a copy of his report right away for you to take home with you. It is a fairly easy and very uneventful test.  I promise! Best wishes, Kathy
