But she said i can try at 6 months post op.  I am 5 months out right now.  She suggested wine...and no beer.  I dont like wine and i cant have beer.  What can i have?  am i supposed to carry around packets of crystal lite with me?  what did yall drink and how much did you.  i know ill get drunk faster now...but ive only drank like 4 times in my life so.......i dont know what im doing! i dont want wine...someone help me!  thank you.

Hey Jordan.  Yes the alcohol will affect you differently and you will probably get drunk faster.  The calories associated with alcohol are wasted calories (no nutritional value), there is a lot of sugar in most alcohol drinks and there is a risk of addiction transfer (turning the former food addiction into something else such as alcohol).  All these things in mind it is your choice.  I do occassionally have a drink.  Beer is a no no because of the carbonation.  Wine can be too sweet.  I have heard of a lot of people caring their crystal light with them and getting vodka shot with a glass of water.  Putting the vodka & crystal light in the water.  Me, I chose to drink at home when I do drink and I put my Jack Daniels in my crystal light and have at it, depending on the size of my cup I may have one or two small drinks, actual amount of liquor is less than a full shot.  :) Just be very carfeful of all the aspects and if you don't know what your sugar/dumping levels are yet, you might want to try different things at home first.  :)

I've heard to wait till you are 6 months out too.. My sister had the surgery in 04' and she doesn't drink very often but she does have an occassional beer at a BBQ or a mixed drink with soda when she goes out and the only problem she has is getting drunk quicker.. But I too have heard people give up a food addiction and end up with an alcohol addiction... be careful is all i can say... Missy Have you had Gastric Bypass Surgery? Thinking about having Gastric Bypass Surgery? Are you a military wife? If so check out our group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Mil-Wives-and-GBS/

Hi, there are several people on here that will tell you that you will get drunk faster and that is true but it can lead to other problems and Ms Count touch on it when she said that it can become a problem with transference of food to alcohol and that is very true. I know because I know someone that it happened to and it was not nice she almost died and I would not want that to happen to. Please stick with the crystal light and water, you can party and be happy without drinking. Drinking does nothing but hurt people and their families. Sorry if I sound harsh but I rather tell the truth and hurt someone feelings than see them get killed because of the alcohol.
