GI Doctors in Hampton Roads???
Has anyone had to have any type of revision or corrective surgery done by a GI Doc?
I have been having this ongoing pain since 2005.
Right now, my PCP and my GI Doc are the only 2 people I can see with my stupid insurance. I cannot get a followup with my surgeon or any other surgeon.
I am just wondering if anyone has had any complications or issues that were ultimately resolved by a GI Doc, not their regular surgeon.
I am in the total catch 22 that both my PCP and GI Doc think my surgeon needs to fix the problem, but I can't see my surgeon. (unless I win the lottery!)
HI!
Unfortunately a surgeon will have to be the one to do any sort of procedure that is surgical in nature. GI docs do procedures such as endocscopy/colonoscopy and help take care of medical conditions related to the GI tract, but not actual surgery.
Please call your doc and discuss this with him and then call your insurance and file a complaint...or request or something to see if they will let you see a surgeon. It makes no sense that they won't cover a surgeon.
Good luck,
Dianne
Well My GI Doc does do surgery. If he thought my gall bladder or something needed to come out, he'd do it.
They've scheduled me for a colonoscopy to make sure I dont have some form of colonitis. I'm not looking forward to that one. 24 hrs with all liquids? I didn't even have to do that the day before my RNY GB!
The with the insurance is I had one insurance company when I had the RNY GB, and we switched to another insurance company in 2006. My employer switches carriers about every 3 yrs. Anyways. the new insurance doesn't touch RNY GB with a 10 ft pole. So they will not pay for me to get any follow ups with my GB Surgeon. Its hard enough for me to get a referal from my PCP and insurance for the GI Docs, they'd never approve me to go back to my surgeon anyways.
When I last saw my surgeon in 2005, he swore up and down this was NOT a problem related to my RNY GB. He kept telling me the pain was from me being constipated. I dont see how someone who goes 3-6 times a day is constipated, but that is what he believes.
(He has a touch of the GOD complex, so he thinks nothing could possibly be wrong with his surgery)
I guess I just keep moving forward with the GI Do****il they run out of tests and have no idea what else to do with me.
