Becca-

Bariatric Advantage (www.bariatricadvantage.com) sells a chewable that's tolerable....you may want to check them out if you're having issues with pills (I know they can be hard to get down!).

Hi I think its different for everyone because my Nut told me because of my height to get in 109 grams of protien per day, that is definately alot more than 60 to 80 huh? I guess it is just different for everyone for different reasons. Good Luck with your surgery! Cheris

That is a whole lot more protien.  I can't imagine how to get everything in that we're suppose to with the size of the pouch.  I'm not suppose to see the Nut. until after my surgery, I just couldn't wait until then. Good luck to you as well on your upcoming surgery! Jackie

Jackie , keep in mind that while you have gotten some great info .. that your doc is going to have his own protocol . When I said 60 to 80 . Trust me .. you will barely be able to get in 40 a day right off the start . But the further out you get .. the more protein you will be able to do . Keep in mind as well that if you get in a lot of protein , you will need to exercise with it . Protein overload can cause weight gain ... especially the further out you are . But for now , just focus on what your SURGEON says and how he guides you .  I want you to realize as well that while most people try to get by with purchasing cheap vitamins .. Ask your self if you really know how long those vitamins have sat on the shelf ..  how long did they sit in the warehouse .. hmmm what fillers do they have ? . I will leave you with this .. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO PUT IN JUNK ?? OR CHEAP .. I for one choose only vitamins I can smell the earth in .. Vitamins I know melt easy . I challenge you the next time you can get your hands on a cheap dollar store vitamin .. put it in a glass  with water thren try a  Centrum .. or my brand Nutrilife .. The drugstore brand will sit in the cup and not melt .. The Centrum takes about 30 to 45 min to break down .. while the ones I take .. start to break down in about 2 min.  Smell the cup .. see how much earth or vitamin you can smell .. you want to be able to smell the vitamin as well .  Protein .. do you know what kind to buy ..? Most think any protein is good protein . Wrong . In order to get in the 21 amino acids , one must ingest whey protein concentrate with whey isolates . These are high on the BV value .. and the best for you .  Please PM me and I can give you information you can take to your surgeon . You and he can go over the protein and vitamin regimine that is right for you .  Natalie

Jackie- As the others have said, please, please, please check with your surgeon. There are so many different "protocals" out there that he will know best what you should be doing for your body type/surgery type.  That said, here's what I've been doing and my surgeon is quite pleased with my labs: AM 2 Calcium Citrate w/Vitamin D Late AM 1 Multivitamin 1 Iron w/Vitamin C 1 Vitamin K (my multi doesn't have enough in it) 1 Omega 3-6-9 (my good cholestrol goes down if I don't take this...personal issue!) Aftn 1 Multivitamin 1 Iron w/Vitamin C (though I was told I could stop taking this one now) 1 Omega 3-6-9 (my good cholestrol goes down if I don't take this...personal issue!) PM 2 Calcium Citrate w/Vitamin D Also, being 1 year out I eat enough protein in my diet that I only need 1 protein "shake"/suppliment a day. Obviously, when I was newly post-op I was having 2-3 a day.  I also recommend using "good" brands of vitamins. With the issues of malabsorbtion we face, you don't want to be messing around with "cheap" stuff and not getting what you need from them. Also, the hardest thing for me to figure out was what I could take with what. As Natalie said, you can't take Iron with Calcuim....there are several other "rules" like that, so work with your surgeon to come up with a good schedule for you. So....that's my 2 cents worth....but as I said at the beginning: please, please, please check with your surgeon.
