Hi I'm a former Hampton Roads citizen. Your interests are very similar to Jane that lives in Hampton. Hopefuly she will read this post and give you a shout. She is the beautiful redhead that has an interest in glass fusing and medieval stuff. Find her profile and contact her. Raven

Thanks for taking the time to point me in the right direction. I think someone else mentioned her... I'll look her up!

Hi, You'll find at least 2 people on the VA forum that are young military wives.  MIssy is an AF wife (afwife0825 on the OH board) who is having surgery next month - she may be on vacation now.  There's also an army wife from Ft Eustis (you should be able to see her earlier post on this VA forum - soldierswife44).  Sentara Careplex Hospital on Coliseum Drive has a monthly WLS support group meeting - the next one is Aug 8 for pre- and post-op.  They also have separate meetings for post-op 2 years out and more and a lap-band group.  I don't know when those meetings are but you could call Susie Rohling, Bariatric Coordinator, at 757-736-0549 to find out.  Good luck!

Thank you so much! How are you liking your VGB? It looks like you're doing great with it so far. I was helping someone with their decision on WLS and I was trying to find different surgeries for her because I didn't think she was a good LB candidate. She ended up getting the LB and I haven't heard much from her, but I think the VGB would have been so much better for her. I've been reading more about it for other people I talk to about WLS. I love my band, I just don't think it's for everyone. Thanks again for the info!

I've had zero problems!  Told the dr a couple of weeks ago that except for losing weight and having a scar, I can't tell I've had an operation.  Magic!

Hi Stacie and welcome aboard. I'm  heading to TX tomorrow on vacation so this will probably be my last time online today... We live in base housing out by Langley AFB. We have been here almost 1.5 yrs... I don't care much for the East Coast i'm a TX. Where is your husband stationed at? I'm having my surgery next month on Aug 21st and i'm so excited and i'm having Lap RNY down at Portsmouth Naval which is pretty much we they send most off the Tricare Prime people.. Those that opt to go Standard do have it out in town by a civilian. But I was fine with the wait... I'll be back on the 7th next week.. Hope you are able to find some friends here.. I love this VA board they are all wonderful people!!!

Oh I so know the Tricare game! They kept trying to send me to Portsmouth for a RNY too but, even though I know a lot of people who love they're RNY, it just was not what I wanted.  I had my Lap Band covered, but it was practically an act of God. Now that I know how to do it, I have helped several military dependents get it done. Oh I only wish I would have had a RNY wait! lol It took me 2 years to figure it out. We should be able to get a lot of our plastic surgery covered too, so don't let them tell you no! You basically have to bypass Tricare and go through the military hospital you want to have (and/or that offers) your surgery. Brian is stationed on the USS Carl Vinson. It's getting a total overhaul, so he works at a facility in Hampton. We're technically stationed out of WA but the overhaul takes place here... so here we are. It's good in that we are getting "sea time" (a total loophole) but VA has been tough for me. I think if I were in Williamsburg, VA Beach, or even Yorktown, I'd have an easier time. We did just buy a house in Old Wythe, and it's been an amazing thing! I do love this neighborhood, and I think it's going to save me! I like to use the old gym at Langley, but I've all but stopped going for a number of reasons. Firstly, I've been working my ass off on this house (mostly the yard) and second, the people I was working out with all moved away. I do okay in the winter time with going by myself, but when it's hot and humid outside I need someone to commit to. If you ever want to start going definitely let me know! I hope to meet you before, but if I don't, good luck with your surgery!

Hi welcome to the boards. I grew up in Hampton and Im now stationed at Ft Eustis ( Newport News close to Williamsburg ) I am 26 and the BIGGEST republican you'll ever meet. Now that doesnt mean Im anti gay ( I read your earlier explanation about your reasons for bringing up your political preference ). I feel the same way you do about wanting to share thoughts and opinions and not argue all the time with people that dont see eye to eye with you. Thankfully Im an open minded and understanding person, I dont judge often and I dont mind people being of a different religion or none and or political belief just as long as they dont mind mine :) Im not currently working out on a regular basis but will be soon following my surgery at the end of the year.

Hopefully I'll be amking it to one of these meetings I keep hearing about ( It's been a busy summer and Im kinda new here as well ) I come in peace lol Brandi~

I'm so so glad my response came off okay! You're "I come in peace" is so funny (and sadly these days appropriate!). Being in the military makes it even harder because I'm labeled "unpatriotic." Oh well... I'm not working right now either. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go get a job at Starbucks (which makes me totally laugh at myself), but it will only be part time. I used to own a coffee house (and a salon) in N.California and it turned me into a coffee snob. I really NEED to get out of the house (hence my post here! lol), a little extra cash is good, and really at the heart of it all I'd love to make my own freaking coffee that isn't burnt and/or bitter. I also just like the whole coffee house 'thing,' and at this point I'll consider Starbucks as having that 'thing;' something I'd never look at that way on the West Coast or even up North. The rumors are true. Us North Western people are freak outs about our coffee... so much so that I'm taking quite a bit less per hour than I'd get elsewhere to be around it. I hope it is what I need it to be. Did you request to be stationed @ Ft. Eustis or was it kind of a fluke? We are technically stationed in Washington state... haha on us! I really would like to go overseas though... I love different, even if it's hard like VA has been for us. Italy would be the best if we can get it...  with all the bases being closed we'll have to see how that goes though. Why are you waiting until the end of the year to have surgery? Is it the typical military waiting list thing? Thanks for posting a reply to me!

Sure thang.... Yes the waiting time right now is aprox 6 months at Portsmouth Naval, one because they lost one doctor and two because tords the end of the year they are bring in two other doctors, if that makes any sense. But I dont really mind the wait. Give me some time to get myself and my things in order. We didnt request Ft Eustis...Im from Hampton Va and my husband was stationed here when we met. We are lucky because his MOS will only take him to two bases, here or Hawaii...I can deal with that :) Im a southern girl, not so much coffee, tho I like it from time to time. Im a sweet tea and lemon girl myself :) I stay away from home alot because all of my friends and family live here being that I grew up right down the road. We are always at Busch Gardens or Water Country and we have two trips coming up soon, Washington Dc in just a few day's ( for my husband to get lasik at Walter Reed ) and then Disney World on the 1st of Sep WOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!

Talk to you soon Brandi~
