I just had my pysch appt today at UVA as well. Nothing to worry about really, I talked to the pysch for about 45 minutes then took a test type thing with 340 questions but it didnt take that long. They just wanna make sure you dont have an alcohol, drug or emotional problems that need to be treated first. My whole appt took about an hour and a half. Just remember to breathe and be yourself and everything should be ok :) Keep us posted

No help here..my insurance/Dr. didn't require one.   Good thing....they'd have never let me have this if they knew "the crazy" I have in my head! HAHA...kidding...ok...sorta...maybe they didn't require one because I've been in theapy for the past 2 years...figured I was already getting help for "the crazy." You'll be fine...just be yourself and be honest....

Dr. Bender is a nice guy. I had my apt with him, too. He will give you lots of information and talk to you about the surgery. He wants to make sure that you know the risks and the changes that surgery will require. We had a good chat, I did some silly thing that had about a million questions and went on my way. He did have me do a food journal for 4 weeks and keep track of protein, fat, and water intakes. I also had to provide him with an exercise plan. (mine was swimming in the pool, walking everyday, and doing some sparkpeople.com strength training exercises) Don't stress it. It really was easy.

This is the easy part!  The test/meeting is to evaluate that you don't have unrealistic expectations of the surgery w/o working with the tool (pouch) I suffered from depression since I was 13 until getting on meds and going into therapy about 5 yrs ago. So I was a bit worried about that but the psych said it was not a problem! All good wishes being sent your way!
