People with RNY or DS or VBS at least 60 to 80  grams of protein to start . Per My nutritonist .  20 grams does seem very low . This is the amount of protein you would get in a 5 oz steak .  Call your doctor and make sure the amounts are correct or incorrect .  ALWAYS .. follow your surgeons program . Do not ever do what anyone here does . We are all on our own protocol . If you want to change something in your diet , please make sure your doc approves it .  But 20 grams seems low to me ...  Please call them today ! Natalie

I just asked my dr yesterday about long-term protein requirements.  According to him without WLS, one should have about 50 g of protein per day.  Many don't because they fill up with fat and carbs.  After WLS during the weight loss phase, he wants his patients to take in 90-100 g of protein per day; 60 g during weight maintenance.  He's not concerned with whether the protein comes from supplements or food.
