How much time should I plan to  take off for the gastric bypass surgery? When can the majority of patients go back to work? Any suggestions or stories? (I work close to home, mostly sedintary computer work, am 58 years old)

It all depends on your surgery type . For RNY done via Laproscope , most patients return to work in 2 weeks .  Those that have OPEN RNY , normal return to work is 6 weeks .  LAPRASCOPE - 6 TINY INCISIONS - DONE WITH LONG CAMERA TYPE INSTRUMENTS  LESS EVASISVE  OPEN RNY .- NORMAL INSICISON FROM BREAST BONE DOWN ABOUT 4 INCHES , MORE EVASIVE , LONGER RECOUP TIME .  Your doctor may have different return times , but above is the norm ,  Tink

It really depends on you, but I had open RNY and was out 2 1/2 weeks.  I felt great when I returned, but have a desk job so I was comfortable.

I had open and was out 4 weeks.  My doc says 2 to 4 weeks, I went ahead and took the full 4.

I had uncomplicated lap RNY with gall bladder removal, and I was back to work in three weeks. I have a desk job. Had I a more physically demanding job, he would have made me wait until at least 4 weeks, if not longer.

I had open RNY and was back to work in 4 weeks.  I could have gone back after 3, but was glad I took the full amount offered. If it's a concern, maybe you could do part time hours after 2 weeks.  OH...and I have a desk job.
