Hi Lois. I just spent the better part of two hours reading your blog. You are truly an inspiration for us all. I only wish I had 1/3 of your determination. My problem is a lack of patience...I want to wake up one morning & suddenly be at goal! LOL
It took my breath away when I got to the part about your Cody. I don't know what else to say that won't sound cliche, other than I am very sorry for your loss.
Now, about this EMT-B business...YOU GO, GIRL!!! I, too, became an EMT late in life so I've been where you are now. I remember walking into that classroom on the first day, seeing all those fresh young faces with their brains still in the bubble wrap, barely used, & thought "Oh God! What was I thinking??" Well, when it came time for the written exam & practicals, me & my partner, another geriatric student, were the ONLY ones in the class that passed! All those barely used brains had to re-test!!! I haven't run a call in at least 2 years & haven't been to the station in probably a year & a half. Because of my weight & comorbidities, I had to give up my "love job". But two of my top goals is 1. to walk back into that station just to see their faces of non-recognition at the "new" me & 2. skip enhanced & intermediate & go straight for my paramedic! Maybe I can get hired on by Winchester Medical to be the on-line direction & tell them all what to do in the field! I do know one thing...after reading your story, you're gonna be one helluva good medic & your patients will be lucky to have you walk through their door. I just think you're an amazing lady. Can I have your autograph???
