Well I had my sleep study on Friday... it was .... interesting... I got a call from the Dr on Saturday evening. I have very mild sleep apena with 5.2 episodes per hour and the good news is that my oxygen didn't go below 92%.   He wants me to come back and get fitted or set up for a CPAP.  I am meeting with my Surgeon on Weds so given that its so mild, I'm going to ask if he wants me to get a CPAP. I think he might.. ugh... But at least we know and its  more support for when we submit to insurance (YAY) The Sleep Study Doc also said that because it is so mild after the surgery it should go away... So good news !!

That is excellent news Amanda! Maybe he won't want you to wear it after surgery.... He may just want you to have one and bring to the hospital for after the surgery to make sure you are comfortable.... Jackie

Hi Amanda, Glad you received good news! and even with mild sleep apnea it is good they detected it before surgery.  I noticed you said the sleep study was interesting.....I hope that means in a good way!  I am going to have a sleep study next month at INOVA Fair Oaks.    How was spending the night at the hospital? Take care!

Well, I had mine in a sleep center or "office" and the room was set up like a hotel room, so it was comfortable from that aspect.  It's just a little weird to have all those electrodes on your face and a glowing ET Finger :) I made the mistake of drinking some water so I had to get up twice during the middle of the night and he had to help me unplug everything and get replugged and settled so I didn't bump anything... Good things - bed wasnt too awfully hard, so that was nice, tempature was good and the sound was quite.  They had a tv to watch before hand so ... it was a comfortable atmospher for not being at home. I think the biggest thing was I finally got to sleep after the 2nd potty break and awakening and I was really trying not to go... so after giving in and going and getting resettled again, it seemed like just minuites when the tech popped in to say ok all done.  So I was really groggy when they were removing the sensors and tape... not a pleasant way to wake up... WAH! :)

I had the same type of situation. I went ahead and had the machine in the hospital with me. I wore it the first night and DIDN'T SLEEP A WINK hardly! :-) SO, the second night I asked if I could sleep without it (I figured they'd know if I stopped breathing for too long!!). They let me and I got the best rest that night.  Just think of it as a co-morbidity to add to the list for insurance purposes...since it's so mild.

Glad to hear yours is mild.  I had 277 apneic episodes in a 4.5 hour period with o2 sats down to 50%!!!  Scared 'em half to death...lol.  I have the machine & it's been adjusted twice but I don't get any relief at all.  Mike says it has improved since surgery though so I'm not worried. I mean, heck...I've had it that bad for YEARS...a few more months won't make that big a difference!

Gotta go help set pavers.  Big hugs to everybody!!!!

Hugs!

I also had mild sleep apnea - and I expect we went to the same sleep center since we have the same doctor's office. I didn't get the machine - I hated it when I went for the sleep study (twice) and didn't sleep well with it at all. My doctor didn't mention it so I felt comfortable not gettting the machine. It was another co-morbidity which I am sure helped with my insurance approval. I was also told I would likely correct the sleep apnea with weight loss.

Good news - my husband says I am not snoring anymore since the surgery.

I'm glad your's is mild. I keep trying to get my husband to go for a study but..... you know how  stubborn men are! My snoring has gone away since the surgery too!

Well it is good that you found out the results and can add that to your paperwork.  Hopefully it will go away quickly after surgery.  If you do have to get a machine, I would try to get it soon so that you have time to adjust to it before surgery.
