Getting started....need your opinions :)
So the surgery time frame is sneaking up on me. I need to order or buy some samples of all the different thigns you need for after surgery. In ranges from food to anyhtin else you can think of...what are your suggestions? Whats your favorite suppliments, things to have at home for recovery?
I'll take any suggestions or links you have!
Thank you guy's!
Brandi~
Ps dont foget to tell me your fav flavors and etc :)
I would suggest getting or buying samples of several items. Everyone one is different when it comes to tastes.
On that note...I use Unjury unflavored and Profect Vials (25 grams).
When I first got home and was on pureed foods for 8 weeks I had lots of SF applesauce, peanut butter (creamy, SF), cottage cheese, refried beans w/ shredded cheese, SF fudgesicles, water, water, water :-)

I ended up ordering lots of different samples (had like 30 some differet brands & flavors) and my first few weeks home, tried most all of them. Ended up only like one, the Isopure dutch chocolate. MIxed it with skim milk, just shook it up, and had 2 a day for my first year out.
As for food stuff. My first 8 weeks on pureed foods I did a lot of oatmeal, yougurt, cottage cheese, egg salad, tuna salad, scrambled eggs, fruits, veggies. Most of the time for dinner whatever was fixed (as long as it was lean meat & veggies) was thrown in a blender. That way I didn't have to make seperate meals or have anyone else make seperate meals. Worked great for me.
My favorite though was my pureed cheeseburger. I just fried up some lean ground beef, put a slice of low fat cheese on top & a few drops of ketchup and yummy!!!!
Thank you so much sweetie! I love cheeseburgers so Im all about that!!!!
I already have to make more than one meal at dinner time most of the time...one kid is picky, one will eat anything and my husband has to watch his weight of course with being in the military...so dinner time is a buffet at my house :)
Brandi,
I agree with those who have already posted...you don't need to "load up" too much, but I did find that ordering samples helped...I got to try a bunch of flavors without committing to big canisters of anything. Lots of folks say their taste changed after surgery - I didn't encounter that. What I like pre-WLS I still like and what I didn't like preWLS - I still don't like. I was really hoping to acquire a taste for broccoli, but no such luck! :-)
I'm nearly 4 months out and I have 2 protein drinks each day - My two faves are the Worldwide Nutrition Pure Protein (35 g protein, 170-180 calories). They're pre-mixed in a can and I get the chocolate and vanilla from Trader Joes. I know some Vit. Shoppes also carry them. And, while most of the "fruity" drinks didn't sit well with me (chocolate does get old after a while) I did find that if I take a scoop of Nectar Twisted Cherry and mix it with 16 oz of Crystal LIte lemonade - it makes a very nice cherry lemonade - it's not too sweet (sometimes I add some fresh lemon juice) and served with lots of ice, it's pretty good!
You're going to do great! All the best - can't wait to hear about your progress!
Hugs,
Chele
