I am hungry...like HUNGRY...nearly every two hours I feel like I haven't eaten in days.  I also noticed that I am able to eat a bit more.   Should I be worried...or is it just because I'm 5 weeks out and my pouch is less swollen, etc. I know that this is all normal...but, I need a few of you to just say...Hey Lisa...get a grip...it's normal!

Lisa, Get a grip. This is normal. OK, then. Are you getting in your meals and your protein shakes? Drinking water?  Don't be concerned that you can eat more. That is part of the natural progression. I think that if you are hungry you should call your Nut. He/she should have some ideas for healthy fillers. If your doctor has turned you on for soft solids you may be able to handle some fruits (as instructed by Doc and/or Nut). I eat a lot of cantalope, that helps. Adds some carbs, of course, but I generally stay below my limit. Also pealed apples, with peanut butter if you like. Just chew, chew, chew. Your doc will tell you this, but stay away from citrus and watermelon, for the time being. Joe

Thanks Joe... No softs yet...still pureed for another 4 weeks.  I'm doing my meals well...not getting as much protein as I should be although FAR better than a week ago...about 50grams per day...I'm working hard to get up to 80g per day...still having trouble with the sweet,etc...and I really think that the unflavored protein is the nastiest thing on the planet...but, it's getting better and I'm getting more inventive!  (high protein grits...mmmmmm).  Water intake is fine.  I'm thinking that it's more mental and I"m convincing myself I'm hungry...subconsciously. I see my Nut tomorrow...so looking forward to some new ideas.  I can't eat most fruits...I have oral allergy syndrome and most fruits cause me anaphylactic reactions...(cantaloupe, honey dew, mango, strawberries, watermelon, and the list goes on.)  Pretty much the only safe fruit is apple or blueberry.  I have been making some blueberry protein smoothies with splenda and then straining before I drink.

Thanks again!  Night

Definitely talk to your nutritionist.  What is your schedule like?  I was 5 weeks out when I went back to work and because I have 2 jobs and pulled 15 hour days my schedule of 3 meals & 2 snacks wasn't enough to keep me going.  Definitely keep trying with the protein.  It will help so much.   Here are some food ideas. egg salad scrambled eggs beans (refried, pinto, black, etc. if cooked soft you can mash them or blend them) sugar free applesauce oatmeal tuna fish canned chicken yogurt grits cream of wheat cottage cheese I basically took whatever lean meat & veggies was planned for a meal & put it in my little chopper and ate what everyone else was eating.  The soft foods move quicker from our system because they slide right through.  When you move to regular foods they will be denser & will hold better and be more filling.  You can do this.

yeah! What they all said.  I, too, have been having hunger pangs at odd times so I called & scheduled a fill.  Will be about 3 weeks before I can see the doc, so I'll have to just live with it I guess.  But I feel your hunger.  Hey, I know...let's you & me sneak off to cyber-pizza hut & have a huge cyber pizza with lots of cheese & pepperoni!  Ok, maybe that's not such a good idea.  Even THINKING about the wrong foods is not good for us newbies.  Oh well, guess I'll go have a glass of milk instead.  Take care, sweetie!!!

Hugs!
Ann
