I just need to cry and pout for a  minuite... Aenta as of 9/1 added that they need 5 years of PCP history when submitting to insurance. One would think it's not a big deal.. HOWEVER... Im one of those women who just started going to a PCP THIS year.. I didn't have a primary.. I only went to the emergency room for colds and crap like that... I just didn't get sick.. Im a fairly healthy human being with 100+ pounds of extra fluff... My coordinator said to have my OBGYN write a letter.  I didn't go to an ob for 2 of the last 5 years, I was too embarassed due to a divorce to go back and I was in real estate for a year with out benefits...  Hopefully Aetna will take what information we do have..

Alright Amanda, cry, vent, scream, get it all out.   Feel better. Okay now take a deep breath and start gathering your information.  All you can do is the best you can do, if you don't have the info you can't provide it but you can provide what you do have.  Girl go get that info and get it ready to submit.

Go to your OB/GYN and get any records --no matter how far back --you can get. If you had any other MD appt anywhere that might have weights documented that may help, too. You can also reiterate to the insurance that MD offices are not typically keeping records any longer than 3 years. My OB/GYN told me that they purge the records after 3 years because it overloads the computer system w/ so much data. I spoke with my PCP and they toldme the same thing. Insurance can be a beast. Keep your chin up --you can do this!!

Hang in there...work with what you have and be persistent!  Aetna didn't give me that much grief, but then again I had more "fluff" than you. :-)

Hey Amanda I'm sorry you are going through this.  I have Aetna too and they gave me a bit of a problem as well.  Their purpose in this is to establish that you have a true weight problem and not just a quick gain without much effort in getting it out.  Do you have records from 7, 10, 15 years ago to go with what you have?  Those records may help to substantiate your need for surgery.  Hope that helps!  Good luck! Your post looks like one I wrote a few weeks ago.  I have United Health Care.  When I called I was told I needed a 5 year weight history as well.  At the dr yesterday, the nurse practitioner told me she didn’t think I would have a problem and she felt I had sufficient information.  I JUST started my wait for an answer, 4 weeks and counting.  Good Luck!!
