I need dress help for my sister

So my sister who I love dearly is to be the maid of honor for my wedding.  We are having a horrible time finding her a dress.  My sister is obese, she wears about a 26 (sometimes a 24 depending on the cut).  We can't find anything that we like.  We have been to numerous stores in about 5 different towns around here.  We did find one dress that is very pretty on her and we got it but she is doubting our choice (due to other peoples comments regarding the color & fit).  I love my sister and love the dress we got but definitely want her to be happy.

Does anyone have anything in a 24 or 26, doesn't have to be formal, but dressy, in a fall color, brown, burgundy, gold, etc. that you might be willing to let us borrow.  Or do you have any ideas of where we can shop?  We haven't tried going into Fairfax yet because we don't want to have to spend a lot of money.  Ebay hasn't helped.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Gee, Courtney...I wish I knew where you could look.  Hmmm.  Do you have any friends that sew?  Maybe you could have one made for her & then you can pick out what kind of material you want.  In the meantime, I'll fish around & see what I come up with.

Hugs!
Ann

Thanks Ann.  Don't really know anyone who can sew.

Hi Courtney, When you make it to Fairfax try Catherins it is on 236 just past Old Town Fairfax in a shopping center on the left. I am sorry I do not remember the name of the shopping center  . Catherins has nice  things as well as small selection of formal /semi-formal items.  Not to expensive as well! I am in a 24-26 size but all I have that is dressy is some black items you and you sis are welcome to try what I have. I live in Herndon across from Dulles Airport so you are not to far from me. Let me know if your interrested. Lanette

Thanks Lanette.  We tried the Catherines here in Manassas but didn't see anything we liked.  Maybe if I went to a bigger store we would have better luck.  I appreciate the offer of what you have.  The dress we did get was black and the moms have made a few comments that it isn't appropriate and she is worried about it working color  wise because of that and since the girlies are wearing brown.  I will keep it in mind though.

I will check with someone on that one for you today. I have a friend that is still losing. I have an older 24 and a 26 formal but not in those colors and not today's styles. . Catherine's i about the best choice around here too. I will check with my friend today. Shannon

I'll take a look around here today. If I find anything I will let you know and send you a pix via the cell phone if that works. Tell me about the style. Could she wear some type of sash or shawl in brown to bring in the girl's color?

Thanks for checking Jen.  There really isn't much of a style.  The girls have cute little brown party dresses & I found something very similar for my niece to wear.  The dress we have for my sister has a beige bodice with black lace overlay & black skirt.  It is pretty, versatile & the most flattering of things we have tried but the mom's have freaked out about black at a wedding & my sister is concerened that since the girls are in brown, as is the flower girl, she will look out of place.  I mentioned that with the black tux's for the men she will fit right in but it doesn't seem to be working.  No real style picked.  Just want something that she is happy in & that works color wise.  It is frustrating and I know exactly how she feels.  I hated having to find a dress or outfit for something and never being able to find quite what I wanted.
