Veterans Nursing Home in SC

Well, we finally heard from the State of South Carolina regarding our March 2000 request to get my dad a bed in a Veteran's Administration nursing home alzheimers unit. At this time they still don't have a room available yet, but want to know if we want to keep dad on the waiting list.  My sister wants to keep him on the list, even though he died in May 2001, just to see which happens first - him being reincarnated or him actually getting a bed at the VA. You would have to know my sister to fully appreciate her humor, but I love it.

I am wih your sister - keep him on it and see how long they take to actually offer him a place! That is what I would do but I also have a warped sense of humor lol! Jackie

That is so sad. I just hate to see how our veterans get treated. Or should I say, "Not treated". While not a veteran myself, it makes me so mad to see how we have failed them as a country.

While I can completely see the humor, & as tempting as it might be, if it were me, I'd still let them know that he has passed.  By keeping him on their books only delays someone else the probably long awaited spot.  My Mom has Alzheimers too so I know first hand how frustrating it must have been trying to find placement for your dad.  I had a heck of a time myself. Just playing devil's advocate here.  I have no doubt that your family will make the right decision.  Can't wait to see you on Saturday!!!!

Hugs!
Ann
