I'm happy to report that at 1:23 am, Elizabeth Ann popped into the world (& into MY hands), screaming & hollering & all pretty & pink! I was supposed to meet up with Courtney yesterday but my girlfriend had other ideas...it was baby time & she'd asked me to assist with the birth since her hubby is in Iraq. This is the 3rd baby I've helped bring into this world this year & each time is a thrill!!!  Sure puts things into perspective, seeing that brand new life, all slippery & glistening, & so dependent on us. So I'm raising my morning glass of milk in honor of Miss Ellie...welcome to world, baby girl.  You are loved!

Hugs!
Ann

Aww how exciting Ann.  Give that baby a kiss for us and wish her many life blessings. Are you a midwife?

Nope...just a friend who happens to be an EMT.  In my lifetime, not including my own kids, this will make 6 births in the field so far.  I think in my next life I should come back as an OB...LOL!

I remembered that you were an EMT after I had posted.  My mom had wanted to be a NP Midwife but they didn't offer that course at University of Maryland at the time she was getting her Master's.  So instead she became an Adult NP.  I almost delivered my brother when I was 9 because my mom's labor came so fast.  The EMT's made it to our house just as my brother was crowning.  It certainly is a wonderful experience!

You sound like a little boy that was at one of my field births.  He kept going from Mama's head to her feet, head to her feet...just as the head began to emerge, he ran up to Mama's head & exclaimed, "Mama!  There's a baby down there!!"  He was about 4...so funny! My father-in-law delivered Mike's brother at a lighthouse! Can you imagine all the strange, odd, & wonderful birth stories there are out there?

Hugs!

Good am! Congratulations! That's fantastic! I bet its such a feeling of joy and happiness for sure. What a GREAT friend stepping in to help with your friends hubby is in Iraq. You are such a blessing! I love both those names. Kayla's middle name is Ann and we have an Elizabeth as well (not my girl). So, WELCOME ELIZABETH!

What a wonderful and enriching feeling that must have been. I was an OB nurse for a while and each birth that I was blessed to be in attendance brought tears to my eyes. The experience was somehow humbling and awe inspiring all at the same time. Congratulations!!
