Prayers needed
Just to start out thank all of you that have offer Birthday wishes. Now on to why I a asking for prayers is that I am having problems with my blood pressure and they are changing my meds and alot of what I am going through is being put to my underactive thyoid and I go to that doctor Tues afternoon to see where I stand there and if they will be uping my meds for that and to me my diabetes is doing great but we will see about that. This is nice to find out on your birthday but I guess it could be worse. Getting ready to go to the movies instead of the fair since one of my grandkids got into trouble so we are not going because we were going to take them and there mom. So the movies it will be. I will let you all know how things go. I go back in 6 weeks to see how the new meds are doing.
Also I have left BRU and now will be losing my health insurance. But right now I will go with Corba since I have not been able to find a insurance company that will insure a diabetic. I know this sounds like discrimnation but what can a person do that is how they get by with things. A so called pre-excisting condition. So things will be rough for a while but the best news is I am now working for a small Dr office and I love it there, the only draw back is no insurance and that is because there is only the doctor and office manager, one person in front office, me and a part-time person.I have been there now 30 days of a 90 day period so far so good. I do medical assistant in the mornings and pre-auth and referral and medical records in the afternoon. So I am putting my degree to work for me.
Have a nice weekend and be good to yourselves.
Kat's Mom:
You probably already know this, but just in case: Assuming that you had 12 months of medical coverage immediately prior to changing jobs, the "preexisting condition exclusion" cannot not legally be applied for any group medical policy. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 requires any group plan to accept you w/o the preexisting condition exclusion. (http://careerplanning.about.com/cs/legalissues/a/hipaa.htm)
HIPPA does not apply to individual plans, which is why you have encountered the problems getting coverage. I will suggest a few options:
1. find work at a larger company that has a group plan
2. keep COBRA (which should be an option for 1 to 2 years), then as you are approaching the cut off point, find work at a larger company that has a group plan
3. investigate whether you are a member of any organizations that may have group health plans. I don't know of specifics, but I would look at AAUW and AARP.
The important thing is to not let your coverage lapse. If it lapses, then even group plans can apply the exclusion.

Thank you Joebear I am going to go ahead and get the Corba and see what happens after that since I found out that I can get that for 18 months and after that I understand that pre-existing conditions would not count against me I hope that is true. Right now I love where I am it might be small now but we are hoping to get it bigger and better under new management and better workers who will not take the doctor for a ride like what was there. We are looking for another building now so that we can grow.
Prayers going up for you hope things will go better for you......
