Hello all~ I am new to Northern Va., I live in Manassas Park.  I was wondering if there were any support groups that are local to me?  I saw a post about one in Stafford/Frederickburgs and it looks very interesting, but when I mapquested it, it will take me about 50 minutes (not counting traffic) to get there. Thanks!

Can anyone attend?  I had my surgery in Portsmouth, VA.  What time is it, and where exactly in the hospital do I go?  Can my husband and son ( 7 1/2 months) attend, too?  Or do they frown at children attending? Thanks!  Sorry for the overload of questions.............

Well we don't actually have anything here in Manassas.  There is the Monday group at Fairoaks, a Thursday group at Fairoaks and then there is a Thursday group in Warrenton.  Although those locations are not really far from us here in Manassas, the traffic can make it seem longer.  So how are you guys settling in?

Hey Ms. Court~ Please look at my reply above, I have a few questions.  I don't know if you would happen to know the answers to them or not, you seem pretty well informed. We are settling in good, just getting to know our way around.  I was looking to start attending meetings again, so I get my butt back on track.  I gained alot of weight when I was pregnant, and now my son is 7 1/2 months and I still have most of that weight.  All the junk and candy keep finding their way to me.  Thanks for your reply....................

The Monday night group is the Journey together group, you can find more info at www.inova.com.  Go to the Fairfoaks site, then bariatric surgery for more information about the group & location, date, time, etc. Dr. Anez's support group is the Thursday night group, run by his nutritionist, Sally.  They are held in his office (building right next to Fairoaks hospital).  More info at www.obesitysurgerycenter.net, go to the What's New section &  then support group.  Sally has also included info on some of the other local groups, go to the our patients section & then support groups for more info. As far as I know significant others are welcome at all.  As for children I am not sure.  There are other groups in the area also, hopefully some of those ladies will respond with info for you. Glad to hear you are settling in well.  Sometimes it is hard to get around in this area and I have lived here all my life.  As for getting on track, you can do it.  That baby was a blessing, now it is time to buckle down.  I definitely understand about the junk & candy, with two stepdaughters (to be) I find myself struggling with the control sometimes when the junk is in the house.  Welcome to Manassas, & the VA Board.

Stacy, I work in Manassas, Ballsford Rd, just before the I66 exit to head toward northern, VA or West to Warrenton. If you like you can meet me after work and ride with me to the Staple Club meeting in Fairfax conducted by Sally Myers Dr. Anez's Nutritionist. Dr. Anez is one of the Bariatric Surgeons at Fair Oaks Hospital. This group welcomes patients who have relocated. Sally and Tiffany (Dr. Anez's, Physicians Assistant have been my rocks of support and knowledge that I have relied upon through my very successful and ongoing process. I adore them! They are really down to earth personable and very plesant to work with. I consider them ny friends as well as Dr. Anez's professionals. Staple club meets the second Thursday of the month at Fair Oaks Hospital in a conference room, the next one is on the 8th of November at 6:30. Unfortunately you just missed the last one. Also, I attend the Warrenton Bypass Support Group that meets at the Fauquier Democrat Conference Room, the last Thursday of the month. It is not difficult to get there and I could show you the back roads to avoid the traffic. You could follow me there if you wi****'s about a 1/2 hour ride. we have ladies that come from Centreville to attend as well. Just let me know if you are interested!! I am a big believer in attending support groups, which ever ones work for you!! Statistically we do better with our progress and maintenance while attending support groups. I have made some great friends that I exercise with, shop with, hang out with etc. Hope this is helpful! McLean
