Newbie question re: protien
Judith, The best protein drink is the one that you like to drink. Otherwise you won't take it as often. Since your tastes may change after surgery you really don't know now what you will like later. So, you probably don't want to buy a large quantity of any one kind. But, it would be very useful for you to contact manufacturers and distributors on-line and ask for free samples. Or, if not free, then buy a few samples. There are on-line distributors nearby who can get protein to your door in 1 or 2 business days, so you don't need to buy a lot as a precaution. Businesses recognize the vastness of the bariatric protein marketplace, so you can find protein in many different forms, flavors, etc at many different places. The Internet is probably the best place to check price. Several thoughts: 1. Whey based protein is said to be better for you than soy protein. 2. Bulk will generally be cheaper than "singles", but you it may be more difficult for you, depending on the environment where you work. 3. Taste is very much an individual thing. Try a lot and buy what you like. 4. Stores where you can buy protein drinks are GNC, Trader Joe's, Vitamin Shoppe, and others. 5. A brief list of on-line places are: bariatricadvantage.com, bariatriceating.com, bariatricchoice.com (my favorite for convenience), unjury.com. There are many more. 6. Buy 1 or 2 shakers (or get them free from vendors).

Judith, My favorite were the New Whey protein bullets. They come in 25 or 42 grams. Keep them chilled, and they are an easy and tasty way to get in much of your daily protein requirements. I found them at the Vitamin Shoppe, and I understand there are stores all over the country. They come in a variety of flavors and grape was my favorite.
