I was wondering how long some of you waited before having coffee?? I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but do like a cup every now and again.... Or even a Starbucks when I hang out with the girls...

I've been able to handle one coffee a day or whenever for about a week now.  I just don't put any creamer or sugar in there.  I like my coffee iced so I just fill up the cup with ice then pour the coffee over.  I like Wawa's French Vanilla and Hazelnut coffees.  Gives me flavor without adding creamers.

I switched from decaf to regular a month from surgery. Usually I have one cup a day. Sometimes I make unjury vanilla and add that as the creamer.

I was a huge coffee drinker but figured mu surgery was a good time to give up caffeine. Now I only have decaf - sometimes a decaf latte at Starbucks. I can't tell the difference now.

Good am, I highly suggest you talk with your surgeon/nutritionist to get their opinion first and foremost. Its funny for me to think about because strangely enough before surgery I never enjoyed coffee. However, I drink it everyday now. I started with decaf coffee and it was several months post op for me before I drank leaded but now its all I drink. I limit myself to 24 oz. per day and then I drink fluids like Crystal Light for the rest of the day. Caffeine has different effects on different people and so my advice is check with your docs first then go with what you feel is appropriate. Have a GREAT day!

I'm an avid coffee drinker. I just keep everything SF and NF and it works for me. We're all different though. I just try to drink as much water as I drink coffee and it works itself out!

Checking with the Dr. or Nutritionist is good advice.  They advise against coffee (especially with caffiene) in the beginning for a few reasons.  One it can dehydrate you which is why so many who do drink fully loaded drink extra water to compensate and two in the beginning it can irritate your pouch.  I believe I was about 6 weeks out when I started with decaf (when I went back to work).  It was about 10 months out before I had fully loaded.  I drink one fully loaded every morning and then may have 1 or 2 decaf through out the day. I use splenda & sugar free creamer in all.

My nut and dr told me i could have a half cup when i left the hospital. That was about all i could hold. Now is a different story. They told me decaf but that didnt last long for me. I try to drink enough other fluids to go along with it. Check with your surgeons office. Shannon
