For those of you who have dealt with a stricture and had to have more than one dilation...here is a question for you. I had a stricture that was dilated to 15mm on Oct. 5 and have had really no problems since then.  Yesterday seemed to be and okay day although I felt more "full" than normal after just a few bites and it was no big deal... Today I was mucho uncomfortable for a LONG time after just a bite or two and really have just been feeling ick today.  Breakfast consisted of, literally, one piece of chicken about the size of a mcdonald's nugget eaten over the course of about 25 min.  By the time I got to 25 min I was unbearably uncomfy...and stayed that way for approx. 3 hours.  Then, I ate ONE bite of hamburger meat (about the size of a pea) ONE french fry, and ONE bite of a piece of toast with PB on it over the course of 40 min...it was awful and that was at 3pm...and I am still "full" but finally stopped being uncomfortable about 90 min. ago. To me, this is consistant with my stricture coming back...but, I feel that it is too soon.  Could it just be a bad day?  Or should I consult the GI tomorrow?  I don't want to go through another EGD needlessly...especially since I am just 4 weeks post EGD for the first dilation... Just need a bit of advice please!  Thanks.

I never had a stricture, but can only suggest that you call your doc in the morning.  It's better to be safe than sorry, and they would prefer the call instead of you suffering like that. Good luck!

Good am, first and foremost call your doc's office and tell them of your situation. I had 2 strictures and almost back to back. Next, At 4 weeks post op I was not able to eat chicken, hamburger meat or french fries. In fact, I was just upgraded a few weeks later at 1 1/2 months to being able to try tuna and meats. You might consider a consult with your nutritionist/surgeon and discuss what is acceptable to be eating at this point. Many of us don't do well with meats until a bit later on in our eating journey and some of us don't do well at all. For example, I am goign to be 5 years post op in January I still cannot eat steak although I've tried. In my opinion what you are eating has some to do with how you are feeling as well. Meats are heavy and not easily digested. Also, have you considered mashed potatoes instead of french fries? The consistency is soupy if you will and easier to digest. I hope you get to feeling better quickly and keep us posted. - All best...

Thanks for the info...I do want to clarify that I'm not 4 weeks post op...I'm 4 weeks post EGD for the stricture...I am nearly 3 months post op...I had surgery in August. Also...up until yesterday, I have been tolerating chicken and little bits of hamburger although I avoid hamburger meat mostly because it tastes different and the texture is now bizarre to me.  I am just feeling very frustrated that I had been doing so well and then it was BAM!  I did call and have an EGD sched for later this week...they said I can always cancel it if I start to feel better.

Thanks!

Right! I apologize I remember your surgery being in August but my brain kept saying ok??? I will tell you that for me my 2 strictures were Feb & Mar within weeks of each other and so its very possible you need to have the opening to your pouch opened up a bit more. I know you've had a tough time of things but chin up it will get better. I know for me following my strictures I went back to liquids/soft foods for a few weeks and began building myself back up again. You might ask about this later this week. All best and feel better....

I agree, Call the Doc. Normal times "between strictures" would just be a norm. Everyone is different - that is one thing that makes people so interesting. ;-). Also, I think Kat may have a good point regarding meat. I am able to eat a few ounces of chicken or steak, but only if it is in something moist. Otherwise I feel sick after about 4 bites. Lisa, you have been having a tough time, but you will get through this. Joe Bear
