Yakima Valley Anti Constipation Fruit Paste
A woman in our local support group runs an AIDS clinic, and this is what she recommends to her patients who are on lots of meds and have problems with constipation. It is originally from a woman who made it for her hubby who had/has cancer.

To the many that have requested my treasured recipe, from someone in Yakima Valley, to all of you.
Yakima Valley Anti Constipation Fruit Paste
1 lb pitted prunes
4 ozs senna tea leaves (at health foods store)
1 lb raisins
1 lb figs
1 cup lemon juice
1. Prepare tea; use about 2 1/2 cups boiled water, add to tea leaves and steep for 5 minutes.
2. Strain tea and remove tea leaves.
3. Place 2 cups of tea, or amount left, in large pot.
4. Add all of the fruit to the tea.
5. Boil fruit and tea for 15 - 20 minutes, until soft.
6. Remove from heat and add lemon juice. Allow to cool.
7. Use hand mixer/blender or food processor to turn fruit and tea mix into a paste.
8. Place in glass jars or Tupperware and place in freezer (paste will not freeze but will keep forever in freezer also very long in fridge).
DOSAGE: 1 - 2 Tablespoons per day
Suggestions for use: Can be spread on toast, english muffin, bagel, bran muffin or rice cake. Good breakfast. lunch, or snack: toasted bagel or english muffin, spread with low fat cream cheese or goat cheese and topped with fruit paste. For a change of flavor mix in some raspberry or strawberry jam. The first time I made this, I cut the recipe in half, used the full recipe after that. The stuff seems to work just fine, as long as you use it regularly .... it's all natural, no chemicals, no preservatives, just a little bit of money and time invested.
My husband, Mel, wanted me to tell those of you who may be hesitant about trying it because you may not like the flavor, that he used it as a jam on toast, he wasn't constipated, he just liked it, and apparently it didn't do him any harm.
Good luck to all
Norma
Sure seems like it would work, but we do need to be aware that senna is a laxative that our good friend Cait told us about. That said, there is some sort of fruit paste that we use at work for this very purpose, I had forgot about that until reading this. I finally got some Miralax . But that huge bottle is only supposed to last for 14 days and it was written as a one time RX, no refill. I just took my 2nd dose. Nothing so far. I suppose prunes would work, but ohhhhh. I love plums, but prunes! Why couldn't they taste like raisens. Barbara
Barbara, I have been on Miralax since last Friday and NOTHING has happened. I finally got desperate last night and bought Fleets stimulant laxative. I took a full dose last night and again today and NOTHING! I have tried prunes, Colace, Citrucel, Metamucil, FiberCon, FiberSure, and Milk of Magnesia. I have been drinking my fluids too. I guess I have nothing to lose by trying the Yakima Valley Anti Constipation Fruit Paste! Weight loss of course has stopped and I have gone back up a couple of pounds. I have struggled with IBS with diarrhea for 20 years and now this! Never in a million years did I dream I would be the Queen of Constipation.
I am miserable!
Mary

Oh Mary, you poor thing. I know this is personal, but when was your last BM? If it has been took long then you should contact your doctor, he'll probably want you to take some magnesium citrate. There is also some stuff which may be the same thing that you have to take before having a colonoscopy that really does the trick. He may even send you for an abdominal xray. I think the longest time I ever let myself go without having a BM was 5 days, and that was a miserable experience. So now I'm pretty adamant about using a suppository if there's been nothing in 3 days. For me the Miralax really did the trick, senna also works, but then I usually have lasting effects throughout the day with little to no warning. Not a fun thing. With the Miralax i had a normal bowel movement after I drank my tea this morning ( oh and I'm putting Benefiber in my tea too) and no after effects. My dietician said she isn't a fan of citracel so I haven't tried any of that. I don't want it swelling inside my stomach and stretching my stomach. Benefiber doesn't swell, nor does the Miralax. At work we have had a situation where a client went home for a weekend and Mom decided to not give a suppository but rather to give her daughter more time. Well, this young lady ended up with some big problems. It took repeated fleets, and extra of all her bowel meds before things were resolved. Once you get impacted it can be dangerous. Please let me know when things have resolved. I hope you can find a happy medium place to be- not IBS and not constipated! I'm still working on it myself. Oh do try using the bisacodyl suppositories too, and never again let yourself go past day 3. Barbara
