I was able to talk with Dr. Alvarez and here is what he recommends for antacids. I don't recomend Tums because in some patients it may cause nausea or vomiting. Wich we don't want in a patient with a sleeve. I'm ataching a link with more info and the related side effects. http://www.drugs.com/mtm/Tums.html Proton pump inhibitors are a whole lot better because they work in a different manner. Also they are much smaller as a pill. Less irritation to the stomach. For all you folks who had this question, there you go.  right from the dr.'s mouth!!

Proton pump inhibitors are the kind of antacids that work by being absorbed into your blood & going to the sites that actually make the acid, then stopping the production of it before it even goes into your stomach. Tums & Rolaids only act directly on the acid that is already in the stomach.

As some one who suffered serious acid reflux pre-op and now does not suffer at all.....I found somethng that used to help me was powdered milk...would either take a tablespoon or 2 dry or would mix it with the water but with a higher concentration of the powdered milk....and it should be mixed with warm water.

Prilosec OTC has saved me.  I was really suffering with heartburn and a stuck feeling in my throat.  After the second day on Prilosec, it is 100% better.
