Hi, I am 16 days post-op and have been waking up in the middle of the night with a dried-out mouth and tongue several times a night. Thank goodness I don't have a sore throat but boy my mouth is dry. I sip on some water which helps. Has this happened to anyone else, will it get better, is there anything I can do to prevent it??? Any advise is appreciated!  Mary Beth.......I am down 30 lbs in 1 month since my liquid diet began 2 weeks prior to surgery and now 2 weeks after!

Yes, I had this for quite a while.  And during the day, I still felt thirsty even thought I was drinking quite a lot of water.  I was starting to wonder if I had diabetes.  But eventually it did go away.

I not only had dry mouth while still in the hospital, but I get it quite often even still.  I chew sugar free gum and that does help. I just drink LOTS of water all day. We need to keep hydrated.  You can suck on SF candy too. ANYthing that will help keep your mouth wet. Everytime I wake up in the night time I drink water then too. Good luck to you.

Hi, I try to drink a lot of water but these tiny sips do not add up to much. I was told not to chew gum but I think I will definately try some sugar-free candy. Thank you......Mary Beth :-)

Yes, I've had the same problem.  I've found mine is tied to my cpap machine for sleep apnea.  You don't happen to use one, do you?  It' started pretty soon after surgery.  It's seems that the weight loss has changed the amount of pressure I need, the machine was too high for me and the air was going into my mouth.  The best part is the last few night I have slept totally without it and slept like a baby! Another thing cured by WLS!

I use a bi-pap machine and quite often I wake up with the inside of my lips stuck to my teeth and I have to drink something just to painlessly get unstuck. If I don't drink enough during the day I have this problem nightly and I also develop a really bad taste in my mouth and I can just imagine what my breath is like. So I have learned to never be very far from a water bottle of some sort. I have had sleep apnea since I was a kid so I for one am not ready to scrap my machine - get it readjusted yes but the truth is I will most likely never be divorced from it. Bumpgate

Hi, I guess the bottom line is to stay hydrated and things should get better. Thank you......Mary Beth :-)

Hi, I don't have sleep apnea but that is wonderful that you are off the machine! Congratulations!   Mary Beth :-)

I wake up with a super yucky, dry mouth!  I have to brush my teeth as soon as I wake up!   Marianne
