Many people fall back into their old habits of drinking soda. (Pop for you Mid-Westerners) But the truth is, every doctor you talk to will say the same thing. DO NOT DRINK CARBONATED BEVERAGES! Now, having said that, many people say they do fine on it but the fact still remains - carbonation is not good for your new tummy so if you can quit drinking it the better off you will be.
Thanks for all the info. I am trying to wein off of it again. I just need to go cold turkey like I did last time. I KNOW pop/soda is one of the worst things in the world for us. I know how gassy it makes me, just an old habit coming back to sabatoge me one more time. I don't know why i ever started again, i had gotten to the point I couldn't stand the taste of it and what did I do....kept drinking until i got back to the bad habit. Thank goodness, Im not a heavy drinker...maybe 1-2 per week, but enough that it needs to go. heading back to costco for cases of water and walmart for tons of individual packets of crystal light. I did find that when I have that in my house, my kids and family will drink it usually over the pop, so what an idiot I am to even bring the crap back into my house, other than my husband is a diet pepsi addict.....no kidding he is a true addict, goes through withdrawl everytime he tries to quit. Better get him on the wagon again!!!! thanks agian Bonnie
Sodas?? Never again for me. You've given it up before without the sleeve. You can do it again. And it will probably be easier the second time around.
I know sodas have that sparkley bubbly pretty look that is SO appealing, but I just consider it poisin for my body to help psyche myself out of ever craving that stuff again. If I'm going to eat sugar, it's going to be a few bites of a really ripe delicious piece of fruit, yogurt, or (on a splurge) a yummy gourmet dessert. Life's too short and my banana tummy is too small to waste any sugar calories on junky stuff. Bubbles are highly over-rated once you give them up. It's just air.
Some bad habits are just too easy to slide back in to. I say go cold turkey on sodas and never look back. One of my favorite quotes comes from a book called "The Greatest Salesman in the World." It's a short book that is written as a parable during the time of Christ's birth. Wise advice is written on ancient scrolls and revealed to the main character in each chapter of the story. The first bit of wide advice is one of my favorites. It is....
MAKE GOOD HABITS, AND BECOME THEIR SLAVES.
We all become a slave to our habits. Why not make them healthy habits? When I slide in to a bad habit, I try to remember this quote and turn myself around. So, if you are going to drink soda, give yourself some strict rules to follow (like only once a month) or only a mini-can and drink only half. Usually a little taste is enough to satisfy my desire since surgery. I can just eat 1 potato chip, or one bite of cheesecake, savor it and stop. The sleeve gave me that power, definitely not my own will power. For that I'm extremely grateful. Over time it will become my responsibility to make those good habits stick.

I can't echo the opinions any stronger.
Just look at the work you've done to give it up already! There are just so many alternative choices out there, and this is coming from someone who was quite dedicated to her case of Diet Pepsi each week.
Stick with it or, at the very least, allow yourself one soda a week on a certain day or whatever. :)
Good luck!
I can only speak about what I will do...I WILL NEVER NOT EVER DRINK SODA! I have invested way too much into the surgery and the weight loss to risk stretching out my tiny tummy!
There is a sciance experiment where you put a balloon over a 2 litre soda bottle and the fizz stretches out the balloon to max size and keeps it that way for TWO WEEKS. Are you kidding me that has the potential to make your tiny tummy into a basketball again! NO WAY!!!
I would suggest other things, such as coffee, iced tea, etc. if it is caffiene you are looking for. If it's the old familiar comfort of the icey soda, I would look for other comforty type drinks. I'm not saying you cannot have it, I just know I will not. Good Luck!

Never another carbonated beverage for me again. Ever. Nope. Not gonna do it.
I was a diet pepsi addict.
Everything I've read about it is enough but my nutrutionist said no to carbonation. I"m fine iwth it. I drank crystal light for a while but it didn't agree with my stomach. So for me, its water or decaf tea.
