Only poop once a week. Is this normal?
Not normal - but you'll find lots of posts at this forum from people who are suffering from constipation (I'm one of them). Unfortunately, pooping infrequently is normal for me too. I have spoken to both my surgeon and my family doctor about this. They both told me that I have to try to find a balance. My stomach is not prepared to take laxatives or heavy duty fiber supplements and there are still fiber-heavy foods that I can't eat (I'm in the soft food stage). So I'm trying to supplement daily with a lower than normal dose of benefiber - and then I take a stool softener sometimes. Basically, I'm going to keep trying with these (play with the dose and frequency****il I get to a point where bowel movements are regular-ish and the fiber, etc. isn't making me sick. Also - getting in the fluids really helps with this - I'm trying to drink even more water when I haven't gone in awhile.
Sometimes I think I sound like a broken record on this, but I find half a cup of prune juice every other day helps. Mind you I am not on solids yet so only go maybe twice a week, but the prune juice softens and it is natural. Anne
